Hi everyone,
__________________I'm experiencing some instability with my system - not really sure where start solving the problem but my first thaught was that it might relate to the PSU. Is it powerfull enough? When running stock speeds there seems to be no problem but when I yesterday overclocked to 3.2 (increased multilpier to 12) i experienced a few random reboots when running cinebench + a few applications. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! ![]()

my first guess would be the psu considering your using an 8800gts .. but you could have several factors at play.. having a bad overclock could be it as well.. do you notice if the screen flashes blue really fast befor it reboots.. if so you may have some error.. try disabling the reboot on error.. that way you can see what it is .. if its just straight flipping over.. i would then check to see if you have a stable over clock.. you might not be giving enough power to the cpu.. what is your core voltage and temps .. stuff like that.. can you get a screen shot of cpu-z again to me.. that 430w psu seems a little light for all the stuff your running.. what else do ya have on there.. as far as all your HDD and cdroms and stuff like that.. what

A quick way to diagnose insufficient wattage is place multimeter leads insitu on the ATX connector, then power up the system & load the OC'ed CPU @ 100% (any benchmark suite will do) then watch those voltage readings
![]() BTW how long have you had/owned that Antec? the reason I ask, it unfortunately Antec have been using Fuhjyyu capacitors in their (otherwise ok) PSU's, the end result of which was drooping lines & reboots/freezes etc. when the caps begin to fail ![]()

Based on your responses I've gathered some info. The followng is based on an OC to 3200 (changed the multiplier to 12):
__________________1. BSOD Error Message Got this error message quite soon after booting (no heavy load) *** STOP: 00x0000008E (0xC0000005,0xbfa67D90,0xb53e9764,0x00000000) *** nv4_disp.dll - Address BFA67D90 base at BF9D4000, DateStamp 458ae707 I have no idea what this means. 2. Screen shot (cpu-z, etc.) Link 3. Watt-meter I got my hands on a watt-meter, I opened 3 instances of Prime95 and quite soon the system halted (no blue screen). The second time I managed to get four instances of Prime95 running. The temp waried from 62 to 70 (Core Temp), however MSI's own temp program showed 51c ??Anyway, in addition I ran Battlefield 2142 demo and the Watt meter topped at 275W. Quite soon the connection to the server was lost. After this I returned to Windows, the monitor went blank and system rebooted. Any ideas what to do to get the system more stable? Thanks in advance!

with out doing any research on those codes.. id guess that the nv4.display.dll is your video card driver.. and its causing the reboot.. why it is causing this im not sure.. but .. that is where id start my search is trying to resolve that bsod and then rebenching the system .. i havnt had experiance working with any of the conroe chips or motherboards so i dont know if your voltages are good and what not.. im sure someone will chime in..

I know this reply is a bit late, but I registered just to reply to this post.
I've battled with this same issue of random reboots while gaming for an entire year. After trying every voltage combo possible, going through 2 different sets of RAM, 2 power supplies and testing my board in another system, I finally found a solution. My system: qx6850 evga 680i SLI 8GB corsair dominator RAM 2x 8800 ultra in sli windows vista My solution was to run nvidia gfx drivers 3 versions old. As of the time of this post, current drivers are 178.24. I can only eliminate the random reboots, completely, by running driver version 175.19. Latest drivers = insta-reboot. The previous version will reboot me within 5 - 45 minutes. 175.19 and I am completely stable. Hope this helps someone. |
