So my current PSU is a piece of crap and I'm going to be getting a new one. I was looking at the Antec NeoPower NeoHE 550 for 99 bucks at newegg. It has 3 12volt rails each at 18amps.
Is this PSU powerful enough for some serious overclocking and maybe SLI 8800GTS? I know it's SLI certified but I might upgrade someday to the geforce8's and the SLI certification was handed out before these things came out.

Going Broke Overclocking

Twin 8800s, perhaps you should be looking at something in the 750ish watt range.

Check here for the specs:
http://www.antec.com/specs/NeoHE550_spe.html You'll see that 504W is available for the 12V rails, which equals a total max load of 42A on the 12V rails. That's fine for a single 8800, but not in SLI. You'll need more power than that. If you plan 8800GTSs in SLI (I'd recommend a single GTX over that set up however), then a good quality 700W PSU (OCZ GameXStream, the 750W Silverstone, or the 750W PC Power & Cooling) is more than powerful enough. If you plan 8800GTXs in SLI, then at least the 750W PC Power & Cooling, or something like the 850W Silverstone.

I would get:
__________________OCZ GameXStream 700W, SeaSonic M12 SS-700HM, or a PC Power & Cooling Silencer-750 Power Supply. The OCZ runs at $125, the Seasonic at $200, and the PC Power & Cooling at $250. They are all very stable, high quality power supplies will tons of wattage and voltage. The PCP&C Silencer-750 is 8800GTX SLi Certified, so, if you are seriously considering SLi I'd get that. If not, I would get the OCZ GameXStream if you are looking for a cheap option. And, if you looking for ultimate silence and ultimate cable management without having to get a 450W Power Supply with UV Cables the SeaSonic is your answer. [OCN] Ninja_Boy

Wow, thanks for all the feedback. So OCZ Gamextreme 700 would definitely be something to look at with plenty of power?
EDIT: there's no way I can justify spending over 150 on a PSU so pretty much the OCZ is it.

The OCZ is a bare minimum recommendation for SLI 8800's
Personally, I would go with the PC Power & Cooling. It's easy to justify the expense on a PSU (easier than most other hardware, including video cards and such), since it's an investment that lasts...

I realize that, but the OCZ should be fine for my purposes, and I need a new power supply like within this week because I seriously can't game at all or do anything system intensive for more than 7 minutes. Plus I don't have the money for anything more right now. And I really don't think I'll be getting dual 8800's, it's just something I would like to imagine
. I'll probably end up getting the 8600 ultra when it comes out and never end up doing SLI. That's why I was thinking the antec neopower, but now that I think about it, the OCZ isn't much more expensive.Well, thank you all for your feedback and help, I really appreciate it.
