ok ive got a 3 pin antec fan that i modded for my xbox. the only problem is that its 3 pin and it gives out very little rpm. so i want to know how can i rewire so i can plug it into the 4 pin molex plug? ive looked all over google but it just gives me the adapter.
thanks!

there is no 5v on a 3pin, just ground, signal and 12v...
I dont remember what the colors stand for right now, I think yellow is the 12v line and red is the 5v. You should just cut and splice the black, yellow into the 3pin..thats all.

A fan won't go faster with a 4 pin.

what he means is there is no difference in the output, so its not like your gonna give the fan any more 'juice' than its gettign right now.
I swap most of my 3pins-> 4pins just because they are easier to use and usually there are more connections for 4pins..and i dont like using the mobo connections.

well it does. ive seen a difference between a 3pin connection and a 4pin connection. ive tried 2 different fans and the 4pin runs alot fater and pulls out more air than the 3 pin.
also my antec came with a converter but it broke so i only have one and im using that in my rig. and this gave me a differnce in performance of the fan

its not getting enough power through your mobo connections then...thats not good.
If it works...do it!

Well, depends on how it's hooked up doesn't it?
__________________3 pin can be RPM controlled and 4 pin runs full all the time. This is assuming that the xbox has some kind of control of RPM according to temps.

xbox fan connections only run 7-8v...they do not run a full 12v unless you have mod'd the ground connection...thats the reason it runs slow in one 'box' and not the other.

You can get a 3 pin fan connector to adapter to a molex (4-pin) adapter at any local computer shop. I have a spare one that I got with a Silverstone fan.....or something else I really can't remember.
