I've been looking around and I've been wondering if a Silverstone Strider ST75F 750W would be able to power 2 8800 GTXs in SLI? I know its not 8800 GTX SLI certified, but would it be possible?
Or should I buy the Silverstone Zeus 750W? I would prefer the Strider as it has modular. But how hard would it be for me to hide the cables in a p180 with the Zeus 750W? Last edited by Darks0ulz : 03-12-07 at 02:30 AM. |

From what I've read, the GTX's pull about 150W each or 300W total. The Mainboard and RAM will pull about 300W. So, even if the PSU you mention is pathetic in it's attempts to deliver on it's power rating, @750w, you should have plenty left over.

Are you talking about the Strider or the Zeus? I know the Zeus can pull off 8800 GTX SLI but I'm not sure about the Strider as some say the Strider's rail distribution can't handle 8800 GTX in SLI, but I'm hoping that they're wrong. Anyone know if the strider can handle it in SLI?

I would think twice about that. I had a silverstone zeus 750w and a pair of 8800gtx i sli and had numerous issues I traced back to the power supply. I replaced it with a 850w zeus and it was doa out of the box (btw the 750w zeus was fine with a single 8800gtx). I went to enermax and all was fine again.
__________________The strider is not on the sli certified list for dual 8800gtx (although the zeus 750w and 850w are). you couldn't give me a silverstone for free after my experiences. If you do decide to go with silverstone, I would say get the zeus (the strider is modular and not nvidia certified) of at least 850w. The 750 just won't cut it

Power supplies don;t get a lot cheaper like processors or video cards do. Once they hit the point where they might drop in price, they are discontinued. I just paid $300 for a power supply. Last year my Seasonic S12 600 cost me $150 so go figure.
__________________I would recommend the best power supply you can afford right now. You are in Canada so the brands are limited. Enermax makes an excellent line (I am really pleased with mine). Silverstone has a mixed reputation. Some of them are rock stable and other users like me get nothing but trouble. The Corsair you mentioned has gotten good reviews but If you are going with an interim power supply, take a look at Seasonic. They are rated very highly by every review (including Johnny Guru). The M12 700 W is a really sweet power supply. It won;t run two 8800gtx though. NCIX sells the PC Power & Cooling which are pretty much the best. I have dealer accounts in Toronto so went with Enermax instead. Either would be excellent. Either the Seasonic M12 700W if you definitely don't see going dual 8800gtx $230 at Canada Computers Enermax Galaxy 850W if you are going SLI 8800gtx $270 at Canada Computers PC Power & Cooling for SLI 8800gtx (the 750W version) $253 at NCIX

Yes it will power it perfectly. I'm a clear example because i have the 750watt strider and 2 8800GTX in SLi. I'm also running a 6600@3.6Ghz and the rest is on my Sig. It's a quality PSU that doesn't cost too much.

It must be better than the two Silverstone Zeus I returned to the supplier then

hehe...told ya they were good, Hustler.
it wouldnt bat an eye. Zues or Strider, although if you are really concerned w/ having a modual PSU, then go Zues. Either way, those PSU's kick some tail. well w/ 4 x 18A rails, you have got a total of 864W of 'potential' power * 80% efficiency= 691.2W Thats a whole hell of a lot, considering we havent added the 5v or 3v rails into the equation, and we are already within 100W of the advertised output.
