Ok, with all the questions of "What PSU should I get?", and "What PSU brand is better?", I thought I'd make a thread just for this.

So, with the help from JonnyGuru.com, I'll compose an "updating" list of recommended and tested power supplies in all price -ranges.

Let's start with the intro.

As most of you may know allready, the power supply is the single most important component in your ENTIRE computer. Many people tend to overlook this fact, and slap in a $50 PSU along with $3000 of high end hardware.

Now, you may ask yourself... "What CAN actually happen?".

Well, apart from waking up one morning, only to find out your beloved box will not turn on, while smelling slightly like day-after-4th-of-July... There ARE many more things that can happen, and actually DO happen to most of us. "What could it be?" you ask yourself.

Has your computer ever "frozen" on you ? Or "stalled" whilst doing some work ? I know what your thinking... "Bah, that's because my OC isn't stable". That could be a possibility... But, it could also be that your power supply had a sudden "dip" in the voltages, which effectively caused your system to become un-responsive !

That's why it's vital to get a tough, stable, reliable, and worthy power supply for your system. Getting a cheap PSU is like letting a 5-year-old drive a McLaren F1 ! (I hope you understood my comparison)

Without any further delay, let's get down to business. All the recommendations will be references from Newegg. I understand it's US only, but my main focus here is to recommend models, not vendors.

Also, the order in which the items are listed does NOT mean anything. It is completely random, and shouldn't influence your purchase. A power supply listed here WILL be proven to be reliable. If it's not here, that doesn't mean it's not "good", it just means it's either not been tested enough, or not as reliable as the others tested.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought i would also throw together a list of the top most recommended brands. These are from my experience, any others are welcome.

For the $100+ range, the Corsair HX 520w is great.

It can run 2 8800gts's.

Add an Antec TruePower Trio on, it comes in different sizes. 430, 550 and 650 Watt's, AFAIK. They're great PSU's 42A Load.

Thermaltake Toughpower 750W:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153038

Currently on rebate for $144 from $175 - maybe point that out.

Jonnyguru said it was great:

In the past, Thermaltake has gotten a lot of grief. They had been known to sell power supplies that were "behind the times" in terms of the ATX standards, but dressed up in a lot of glorious bling giving the power supplies an appeal to the naive. Certainly the best way to shake that old stigma is to release a product that is a no holds barred kick butt power supply. The Toughpower 750W fits that bill with plenty of power, good efficiency, active power factor correction, and solid construction.

This PSU gets a well deserved "jonnyGURU Recommended"
I'm hoping to get one soon

Also, my Tagan 480W is just $91 here:

http://www.rackmountnet.com/index.php?products_id=346

And I've found it excellent - it truly is silent, I really can't hear it, and I have a silent PC Even though its got 2 x 80mm fans Great for a backup/older rig
