Default Will an X1950Pro run on this?

Hi all,

A friend of mine's 9800Pro died on him recently, so now he's stuck with an FX5200 untill we find something better.
I was looking at a Radeon X1950Pro 512Mb AGP, but I'm unsure if his powersupply will do the job.

It's a Cooler Master eXtreme Power 430 Watt, with 2 12V rails, one with 14 amps, and the other with 15 amps.
The X1950 asks 450watt minimum, with 30amps on the 12V..
Now, his system isn't very power hungry: an AMD Sempron 2800+ with 1Gb, on an MS-7010 mobo, so I was wondering if it would be just enough or not.

Thanks in advance!

It might but it would be cutting it pretty close the 1950s are powerful mosters that need tons of power. Befor i ended up upgrading to a new motherboard ram and gpu i asked around about x1900s and was told a 460 would maybe power them if i had nothing else in my pc.

so there won't be any dangers in trying at least? Then I think I'll reccomend him the X1950 then, and maybe a new powersupply later if it does seem to be insufficient.

But well, I also run my E6600@ 3.2Ghz all the time on my 400W psu, so who knows it might just run great

It'll run, but there's no answer to how long for. He should think about getting a new PSU to handle that. A Hiper Type-R will be decent enough for that rig. The 580W version

I actually had an Sapphire X1950Pro 512mb AGP on my system (see below) that I got for Christmas, and it ran without any problems on my 350watt PSU, so maybe I got lucky.

The only problem was that it could not perform anywhere near what it should have b/c the rest of my system was seriously bottlenecking it. Graphics and FRAPS did improve some, but nowhere near what they should have been for such a high-end card. I switched back to my 9600XT and sold the X1950 on ebay, and have decided to build a new system entirely.

Considering that I think the high-end AGP cards are more meant to be used with something along the lines of the "last generation" AGP systems (like AMD socket 939 boards) with FX processors or something similar, buying one of these IMO may be a waste of hard earned money. Personally, I would go for a replacement card, still in the ATI 9xxx series - look on ebay, a lot of people are selling them.

Hope this helps.

..it'll run untill a 3d game starts and when It goes to 3d clocks and tries to draw 30A and BLUESCREEN

It'll prolly just bluescreen from loss of power to the CPU or something.

34+A on the 12v is he wants to overclock it

Just get a PSU with it.

Mine is maxed out, I don't have any room to overclock it with my PSU. It hampers my CPU overclocking also, along with memory overclocking.

you do neeed a minimum of 30Amps! i have that card, and it is quality graphics, but power hungry!

i have a 500W PSU with 34Amps on the 12v rail!

Or would it be more wise to go with something like a 7600GT or so?
