Hi guys. I have 2 questions
__________________1) How do i turn on a PSU without connecting it to a motherboard? I have 2 20-pin PSUs and there is not enough power to power up all my 8 fans in it. I want to make it provide power and dont want it ot connect to a mobo. Is this what "hot wiring" a PSU is called? 2) Can a 24-pin PSU fit into a 20-pin socket? So 4 pins will connect to nothing? Thanks.

jumper the greenlead in the 24pin with any black lead and it will turn on--and yes it will fit...

only one--look closely at the plug--there are cquare and "D" shaped pins on it...
make sure they align to the mobo--obviously the clip side of the male plug goes to the clip side of the mobo header.

Sorry guys to revive my 2 year old thread. But i have a burning question.
I wanna buy a case that comes with a PSU that has 24 pins. However, my Socket A mobo has only 20 pins. The 24 pin PSU plug WILL FIT into the 20 pin mobo header? So it other words, it will fit, connect and work properly, but i will just have 4 pins not connecting to anything or will i need a 24 pin to 20 pin converter, similiar to the picture below? ![]() Thanks!

I was also wondering that if a 24 pin PSU could fit into a 20 pin mobo, why are shops selling the converters for?

Seriously? I almost bought one.
Anyway, since a 24 pin PSU will fit into a Socket A 20 pin mobo, i see no issue at all! Thanks alot guys! + rep
