I think my computer might have caught on fire yesterday lol. The fan on my CoolMax psu has stopped spinning without me noticing. I sat down and started gaming for about an hour til I started smelling smoke and seeing it coming from my case, I jumped up, pulled my case out and unplugged it. I see that some smoke was comming out of my PSU, I had a can of air with me so I grabbed it turned it upside down and sprayed it down lol. I opened it up later today and all the capacitors had melted or popped alongside the chips on it. It got so hot the sheetmetal on my case got warped. I am now running on a cheapo cooler master 430w psu from compusa til I order another one 2morrow, most likely the 600w ocz stealthxstream. So I guess a word to the wise, keep a can of air ready.

That sucks, and we keep on repeating over and over, do not go with cheap power supplies, main components in a computer are the motherboard and PSU. Good advice what so ever. I have a window in front of me, if it caughts on fire, I'll toss it lol.

yea none of my other components died. I dont think that psu was really that cheap. It had pretty good amperage and dual 12V rails with 18amps on each. I left the PC on most of the time so i guess it was bound to happen. It was active cooling with one single 120mm fan on the bottom and some sort of heatsink too.

Reading this thread, it reminds me of my stupidity when I didn't know much on technology back then. Guess what I did? I had an old PSU, and it's fan was loud and annoying. So, I took a screw driver and jammed the fan from the back and stopped it. @_@ I mean, I could've broke something and killed myself. -.-"

Amazingly, no. The more I think of it now, the more it scares me. lol
