I also had this issue with a TruePower Quattro 1000W PSU bought about a month ago in conjunction with a XFX GeForce 8800 GTX card. I replaced it with a new one (Thermaltake ToughPower 850W), which solved the power problem.

Just wanted to add that I didn't bother much with Antec's customer service, since it, as with pretty much all "customer service", is utter slow and useless at best.

I have decided not to RMA the PSU, since it's not worth the hassle and time. It is not broken as such, only if used with 8800 GTX cards (Nvidia and Antec have both confirmed this). The online store I got it from was willing to take it back and replace it free of charge, but of course they didn't have anymore units of that PSU in stock, and they wouldn't swap it for another product or return the money.

My linux server will at least have plenty of power now and in the future, and the fan is not even spinning on that 1000W PSU

Hope you get your PSU soon. Those damn slowpokes.

I have been trading emails with another guy that has a TPQ-1000 and he is having the identical issue. I sent him my Thermaltake 250W PCI PSU and it solved his problem, so I know the problem is with both the 850W and 1000W PSUs. So, even though my PSU was brand new, if I had taken it back to the store there is no guarantee that I would get the new rev of PSU, so why try? That is why I chose to contact Antec directly. If you have the PSU and are experiencing the same problem, I recommend opening a ticket with the company so you will get a PSU that works with the 8800GT/GTX. Firebane, BTW I hadn't heard that the 8800GT was also having issues too. Thanks for the confirmation.

For the second system that I'm building out, which is nearly identical to my yellow/black system, I was on the fence for the PSU. I couldn't decide whether to buy another Antec and hope for the new rev of the PSU or to buy the PC Power & Cooling 750 Quad. When I discovered that Antec hadn't shipped my PSU, that sealed the deal and I ordered the 750 Quad for the second system. Antec has NOT lost me as a customer, I just push tight timelines and don't want to play the lotto on whether the new PSU will work or not. If Antec would like to trade my shiny new PCP&C 750 Quad for a verified Antec 850W or 1000W PSU, I'd do it. I like their products and want to support the company, I'm just very disappointed in their Customer Service/RMA dept for my particular experience. I was also contacted via PM and an Antec rep is checking on the status for me. While looking up the RMA # I looked up the new ticket and they closed it without calling me, per my request. [sigh]

My Request:
I opened ticket ##### a week ago and I see that it is closed now, but I do not have my replacement power supply. Yesterday I called Kyle Odom and asked him where my replacement was and he stated that it hadn't shipped yet. He transferred me over to the RMA voicemail where I left my contact info requesting a call back and still have not heard ANYTHING from Antec. RMA###### shows received at Antec via UPS.

Sending my PSU in created a financial hardship for my business and I should have just sent it back to the store and bought a PC Power & Cooling 750 Quad that I know will work with my eVGA 8800GTX card. I was assured in writing that the replacement would be sent the same day the bad PSU was picked up by UPS. That did not happen.

I am VERY unhappy with this situation and am documenting the progress on several technical forums. Please have a Customer Service Manager contact me directly. ###-###-####

Thank you!

There is a combo deal on the egg. This power supply with a 900 for like $260, seems like a great deal but I am now skurd! Though I plan on getting one of the new ATI cards though and since there are no ATI issues atm may be I will be fine.

I hope things get resolved for all of you soon. Best of luck.

Thanks! I think the deal is both for ~$179 (after rebate) which is a darn good deal!! I would do this deal in a heartbeat if I needed another set.

I understand that all is well with the ATI cards and the Antec 850!

Final Update:

I received the Antec 850 Replacement on 11-1 and installed it tonight.

The good news is that the new REV 3 of the PSU works so far, with my 8800GTX card. Note the version number on the PSU, if you're concerned if the PSU is gonna play well with your 8800GTX or 8800GT card.

Pic with flash (not as good as I had hoped)

Pic without flash (better for seeing the sticker!)

Hopefully this thread has helped some folks along the way, through the same frustration that I had experienced!

Antec customer service sucks! I will never ever buy another product from them again.

I had the same thing happen, a ticket closed without a response. I had a True Power 500w that had a fan die within 6 months of purchase. I didn't have a receipt, and they wouldn't even talk to me. They didn't respond to my inquiry of even purchasing a replacement fan from them.

That's the reason why I now have a PC P&C Silencer 750w instead of the Antec 850w.

Xeno - I hear ya! The internet is a small world and people cannot remain anonymous as they once could. I know that Antec knows about this thread because we have a member here named AntecRep who was helpful via PM. My desire is that they take their customer service seriously and constructively change how they interact with customers. Picking up the phone is not so hard.... LOL. I'm sorry you had a bad experience too, but I'm glad that it all worked out for ya!

Yeah, it worked out for me. I ended up buying a Silencer 750 instead of the Antec 850.

Their lifetime reseller rating is 5.45/10... PC P&C has a lifetime of 9.27/10 which also says a lot, IMO.

I agree...BUT - I specifically wanted a modular PSU, with no large fan exposed, so that really limited my choices. I bought the 850 for my system and bought the PCP&C 750 Quad for my friend's system. I'm happy with both decisions at this point.

Hey Rocker - that is great to hear. I would hate for anyone to have to go through what I went through. I was just unlucky to get an older rev of the PSU. All good now, been catching up on work stuff and even did a bit of gaming to stress-test the system.
