Hello guys,
__________________I am posting because I couldn't find any clear info anywhere. I own a 1100w PSU from the brand Keian, the serie is called Gaia. Link: http://www.keian.co.jp/products/prod.../xp_1100w.html The PSU has 6 12vRail with 8 pins. So basically for the PCI-express I have 4 x (6+2) pins cable. It allows me to do SLI without any problem. However for TRI SLI (yeah I own a 30inch 2560 res, no Crysis and some other games can't do 60 FPS at max...anyway, this is not the topic...) I am wondering how to plug an adapter. Some people say that I should plug two different cables throug molex in order to get a true 8 pins PCI-e. But it's logical for a small psu with 4 pins/6 pins output however my 6 rails are looking the same with 20A capacity and 8 pins output. So If I had two additionnals 6+2 pins it would be fine (can you confirm?). Can I just plug the two molex of one cable to the 8 pin adapter? There is still 20A running through the cable right? If I don't put anything else. I heard the GTX 280 is requiring a maximum of 18A, so it should be fine. I already tryed TRI SLI a few month ago, it was fine I guess...But I want to have opinion of people who have knowledge in the power supply/electricty field. I will probably plug 3 GTX 280 in two weeks (if driver is ready), so I need these puppies to have all the energy they require. I know that sometime you feel like your video card is fine but in fact it doesn't pull enough juice. Thanks in advance!

The PCI-e plugs consist of +12v and ground lines...
4-pin = 2 +12 and 2 ground 6-pin = 3 +12 and 3 ground 8-pin = 4 +12 and 4 ground All you need is some male connectors really.

As far as I can see from the site you've linked, the psu can run 4x20A on the 4 +12V rails.
If a GTX280 sucks only 18A which would total 216W+75W from the PCIe slot it should run OK on your PSU, with the condition that nothing else is attached on that particular +12 phase. However, it would push the PSU. I don't know this brand, and I can't tell if it really can handle for a long time that power output, I mean to keep one particular phase at close to 100%, not to mention you want to add 3x GTX280. Test it with the 8pin adapter on the same phase, but try to connect somewhere a multimeter to see if the rail keeps close to +12V. If it does over time, you(re lucky, if not, they have just been over optimistic in regards to the true power of the PSU (they often are). If one rail bends under the load, put the 2molex on 2 different rails and check both of them with the multimeter, but 2 rails should be more than ok. The problem is you need the rails to power other stuff like hdd, mobo, cpu... it can get messy.

__________________I have already two loops on that rig with DC5 pumps for each... Only two raptors, one 780i with a X6800 which will be OC only to 3.4 ghz. I think I need to go for a multimeter and check if the PSU can hold the load...I paid 200 USD(170 USD to be exact) for the PSU so I am not so confident it can compete with big names PSU. If it doesn't do you think the TT Toughpower 1200w can do this job? That's the only 3 PCIE 6 pins and 3 PCIE 8 pins available in Japan right now.

It may be good, but from what I've read a good mark of high wattage PSUs is PC Power&Cooling (PC P&C). They have a 1200W PSU that will do the job.

Well I owned a Zeus 900w (or 850w I don't remember) and I killed it second try. It was on phase change with SLI.
__________________A SNE(Japanese-German brand famous here) 850W single rail could make it(but what a noise!) after I replaced the PSU so I don't think I did anything wrong with their PSU. A BFG 1000w was not able to handle the load of this rig...so I am very suspecious on the wattage claims. In Japan everybody love Zippy, they don't have 1200w but people tell me that their quality is stellar...Not convinced yet. I usually stay away from Thermaltake, Zalman and co. but CWT is making the PSU toughpower. I read only good reviews and it has the connexions for Tri SLI GTX 280. I would go for 1000w corsair but my setup looks a bit too close to the max this psu can deliver... PC Power and cooling cost an arm in Japan 800 USD for the 1200w!!! Buying online is not for me since Japanese shops exchange immediately if any trouble and I live near Akihabara...That's better than any RMA. What's the difference between silverstone construction and toughpower? Why silverstone would be better. They are case builders anyway, isn't it the same plant in China? Thanks for your posts.

if you want to tri-sli gtx280 you need like 1500 watts not 1000w ...

lol so badly wrong there mate, you do NOT need 1500 watts. Corsair makes A tri-sli certified 1000 w model my mate runs TRI-Sli 9800GTX with it.

GTX 280 pulls 238w according to Fud (yeah I know...).
__________________So 3*238=714w. I consider that my system OCed with two raptors and two loops + many 120 fans should require 400w. My pumps require lot of power and I always provide them a molex cable with no other things. So it brings us to 1114w...Please tell me if I am wrong but no matter how good is corsair 1000w is out of questions for this generation. I don't think a 1200w is too much and since I am reaching the max it is better to get a quality one. SLI website is updated for a TRI-SLI of G92. Not for the new cards... So I can't rely on this info. The least we can say is that Nvidia doesn't plan on saving energy with the GTX 280... I already know that a TRI-SLI of G80 put a 1000w to the max. My BFG 1000w brought me shutdowns when playing COD4 and Gear of War during heavy actions. It totally disappeared with this 1100w. I don't want to buy a 1200w to have shutdowns and require a 1500w... But we don't find the TT 1500w in Japan...And the customer service of TT is so poor if I can't rely on a Japanese shop, that's no good. If Corsair could release a 1200w, my problem would be solved.
