I'm looking to up grade my power supply here shortly. I think my current PSU is being push to it's max at 580w. With my current setup would a 750w PSU be ok? I'm Planning to upgrade to HD4780s in a few months. Any thoughts or opinions? Thanks.

That poor Raidmax must be getting worked pretty hard by that system. I tend to recommend 650W-750W for 2 4870 but since you need 4 pci-e connectors you usually have to get a 750W since I don't of many PSUs with less than ~700W that would have enough connectors. Something like the Corsair tx750 is one of the better choices (and one of the cheapest for this quality) and can usually found for ~$100 shipped here. There are lots of choices in this range and if you wanted more options I could have a look around

ROLF! Yeah I'm raping this Raidmax right now. Kool i'll go with a 750w then. That Corsair is very tempting but I was looking for a modular PSU. The Zalman is a good PSU but it only has 2 pci-e connectors so if you are planning on running 2 4870s that won't be enough. About the only 750W that is modular and worth buying for this setup would be this but they are out of stock at the moment: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817815002. It has pretty much the same internals (built by CWT on the same platform) as the Corsair so it is a good PSU. About the only other option you have is the Silverstone ST75F. It's not as good as the Corsair and Xigmatek (but only by a tad). I normally don't recommend the Strider series but that is they best of them. You could also go with the Silverstone DA700 which is about as the good as the Corsair but it is pretty expensive. Hopefully when it comes time to buy the PSU the Xigmateks are back in stock since I'm pretty sure that Newegg is the only ones to sell them ATM.

Ugh, I swear that thing comes up in every thread. It's not hard to estimate usage. His processor will be about 100W at stock, 150W when OCed. The 3870 is ~115W and the 4870 ~160W at stock, add about ~20% depending on OC if you OC. Add 20W for each HD and you get ~500W plus the video card OC. So a 650W with 50A on the 12V would be fine but in this case he needs 4 PEG connectors so he has to get a 750W since there is only like 1 650 PSU with 4 PEG and this the Xigmatek 650. In fact, I guess you could get that since it is in stock but if you are already buying a new PSU you should get the 750W if you can just to have a little more head room for upgrades, better efficiency, reduced stress on the PSU, etc...

No, the best bet would be the Corsair since is it cheaper and just as good. Plus, he wants a modular PSU.

That Raidmax might have worked ten years ago but today those old designs shouldn't be available anymore, especially when Raidmaxes seem to be also misleadingly rated. (Newegg's product photos are useful)

Difference to 4850 puts one 4870 to ~160W,
FX60 is ~80W at stock so 120W would give also some overvolting margin. (3.1/2.6=~1.2 multiplier)
So 500W would be slightly overestimated peak draw.
