Default do i have to cut my case?

hi there, i jus bought a modular supply unit, but ive realsed the fan is facing upwards. ive got the antec sonata 2, and the psu is mounted at the top. now if i face the fan down into the case, this will blow hot air pretty much straight onto my cpu hs. so do i need to cut a fan shaped hole in the top of the case? im not entierly against doing this, but would prefer an easyer method. any ideas will be appreciated.

PSU fans exhaust air, they don't intake. Turn the PSU so the fan is on the bottom, they are designed to work this way.

I believe it sucks air from the case and exhausts it out the back. I'm not sure though.

not entirely correct. PSU fans generally intake air and push it out the back.

there are few exceptions though.

2) The 8 PIN power connector on the MOBO is 2x 4pin power connectors combined in parallel to draw more power safely. 1x 4pin power plug will work, but you should think of an upgrade.

Power supply fans pull hot air out of the case and push it out through the vent in the back in 99% of all cases, which is what I imagine yours will be doing.

Face the fan downwards, it'll suck hot air out of your case

That is what I meant, if you look at the case as a whole not the PSU, the PSU is moving air from inside the case and moving it outside the case, exhaust. Yeah, it does intake air from inside the case but I think its easy enough to understand what I mean.
