Default How to disable LED's?

So this is the power supply I own. By the looks of it, I should be able to unscrew the fan grill and just go inside, right? All I want to do is cut out the LED, snip the wire that it gets power to or w/e. The glow this thing eminates at night is not at all attractive when I leave my rig folding over night. Any help is appreciated.

It depends which way its wired up, my led fan on my psu uses the following layout:

pin (+) -> LED1 -> LED2 -> FAN MOTOR -> LED3 -> LED4 -> pin(-)

so what you then would do is:

pin(+) -> fan motor ->pin(-)

may be a little more difficult but im sure a quick soldering job would fix it.

good luck

well, easy way of doing it. Like you said, removing the screws will drop the fan and the grill. After that is done, find the wire harness for the LEDs (usually wraps around the outer edge of the fan) and snip one of the two wires. This will permanantly disable the leds, and allow the fan to run. Just make sure you snip the right one :P

Take about 1/8 inch out of the wire, this way you know they wont make contact again, and maybe put a dab of hot glue or electrical tape to ensure that there is no loose connections to short on anything.

Perhaps just construct a curtain of some sort so you don't have to see the light? But that can be removed when you want to see it.

be careful if it's not on the fan (like my PSU) you could be interrupting a daisy chain of electric current and thus cutting power to parts on the PSU.

think of the foil with a battery and a light bulb from 1st grade, break the foil and the light goes out.

Not all PS have common connectors for the fan and some are hard wired too.

Actually it's 140mm.

And I'm pretty sure my warranty is over already. This is a no-name PSU and someone on OCN was telling me the warranty for Xion is only a year and if that is true then I'm not covered anymore(suck).

From the looks of it there's 4 very small holes in each corner of the fan outer ring from which LED's shine through. Maybe I can get some kind of putty to stick in there which'll kill the light.
