Part of my build, posted here - New [Q9550/4870/X48] Build
I know some of this may have been answered previously in other threads, but I would like one place to gather all info for my build. Thanks. Not sure what Power supply to get, but I need something high-quality and reliable for this set up. - Intel Q9550 - X48 chipset board (ASUS RAMPAGE) - Two or more 500GB+ Hard Drives - Two Radeon 4870s, I'm only getting one of them now, but I may add another for CrossFire down the road... - Also, must be reliable for overclocking. +REP will be given for any help! If you OC 45nm quad, it will be 200w for it alone. One 4870 max is 150w. I would get a solid 700w psu. Not sure what's your budget so I would get a Corsair 750tx.

Definitely the corsair. Good and cheap. You want all your volts on a single rail, because a lot of PSUs won't put a comfortable head room on the rails for the most power hungry hardware. The corsair has a single 60 amp 12v rail, a pool of 720watts, then should serve you just fine.

Hey, You have a similar computer build to mine. If you want to xfire later on, you will need something like 850W +. So save yourself some time and order the Corsair HX1000W PSU. It's modular and it will tear through anything you throw at it. You know you'll get great support too because it's Corsair and Newegg if you order through them.

OC'd to what level though. A 45nm quad at 3.2ghz is only going to use 70-80W.

When you get a 8.5x 45nm quad, I am pretty sure that most will plan to OC it around 3.8g (doesn't it is able to do so). 45nm quad at 3.2G, it will use more than 70-80w unless you meant 70-80w on the top of its stock DTP.

A Q9650 uses 65-70W at stock. at 3.2ghz I imagine it will be ~70-80W, assuming no voltage is needed for the 200mhz. Check Lost Circuits, or x-bit labs for power numbers. Xbit measured a E8500 at 33W, double it, and you've basically got the actual power usage of a Yorkfield at 3.16ghz.
