The PCI-E adapter is a 6 pin power adapter.

SLI-ready is your best bet for ensuring this feature is on a power supply. Just go into NewEgg.com and go into computer hardware>power supplies>power supplies and under the option for SLI, highlight yes and press go. It should bring up all the SLI certified and ready parts.

Do NOT get a dual rail PS, and you DON'T need a SPECIAL PS to run SLI, I know. You Will need ENOUGH power to run the two cards, so If 400 is enough, then get a 550. If money is no object then get a ps with "sli" ready on it, but they are just taking your money. Look at my ps, I was running TWO nVidia 6600GT's in SLI and had NO ps problems with the antec 550. But let me warn you, MAKE SURE you have LOTS OF Power, cuz I returned TWO 600watt units because they were faulty. One last note, I dumped the two 6600GT's in SLI for ONE 7800GTX and I see a HUGE improvment. I am NOT impressed with SLI for gaming, at least not with 6600GT's, NOW if I had LOTSOMONEY, then TWO 512 7800GTX's, woot woot. NOW, talk about dough, that's about 1600 bucks for two cards, cough cough. Remember, your memory does NOT double, so two 256 cards are still 256 etc etc...

@beaverdam If you are building a system for someone else then you will be wise to spec. the roght PSU for the system build or it will keep coming back on you to fix the issue. Look at the nF4 or A8N FAQ's for PSU suggestions.

This is a very mixed and confused message.

In order to obtain a PSU that meets current ATX12V 2.2 standards then it will have dual rails and there are design reasons for this ... SLI Ready, while a certification does actually mean that it will deliver the power necessary.

400W 26A +12v is the bear min. spec for the nVidia for the 78GT cards but you actually need to allow for the MB & the rest of the system so you really need 480W as the min. for a single card and 34A +12V for dual cards.

Of course the 78's are by far a greater performing card over the 66 but SLi does work in alot of games, agree not all, but there is the performance gain to be had esp. if you cannot afford the latest tech. And the 66 in SLi are not that far off from the 78 in some cases, just need to look at the results here on Overclock.Net

BTW if your PSU is actually an Antec TruePower 2.0 TRUECONTROL II-550 ATX12V 550W, then it is SLi Certified it is a good PSU - must have been a lucky guess

See you on the playing field whenever you get to bench your new GPU

So in other words I do not need to get a psu that has SLI ready writin all over the package? Also, what kind of rails would I need to run a possible sli setup?

No.

I'd recomend 12v 30a+ total.

For an Sli setup you should look at +12V 34A min. as this is the nVidia spec but without knowning the build details cannot comment further.

Good Luck
