Question Corsair HX620 or HX650?

I hear the HX650 is a different base unit, and doesn't perform as well?

The price difference is minimal, the thing is I'm stretching for an all blue theme in my upcoming rig, and the HX620 has a red sticker.. (I know, but I do care.)

Would either be enough to power the following;

NZXT Tempest with 6 fans and 3x cathodes
eVGA P55 FTW
intel i5 750
4GB Corsair DDR3 1600
1TB WD Caviar Black
40GB WD Caviar SE
3x DVD Burners 1x 24x 2x 16x (I burn copies for mates)
and either a HD4890 or a GTX275.. (waiting for GT300's for price reduction, may SLi 9600GT's until then as I already have one.)

Thanks in advance

Reflux

HX650 should probably do you well. I own the HX620 and have been more than happy with it, but if the HX650 was out at that time, I probably would have gone with the newer PSU.

Just skimmed over Corsair's website...

HX620:
Triple 12v Rails
Up to 80% Efficiency
50 amps on +12v
5 year warranty

HX650:
Single 12v Rail
Up to 85% Efficiency
52 amps on +12v
7 year warranty

I think either would be sufficient for your proposed setup.

HX650 is a better overall PSU. Price is around the same, the HX650 can output a wee bit more power with a wee bit more efficiency. But if you want something even better, go for the Antec TruePower New 650W. It outputs 54A on the +12v rails with 80 Plus BRONZE efficiency, and ripple voltage is better than the HX620 (so it will most likely be better than the HX650 too). Line regulation is similar, the Corsairs have more modular connections though.

The TP-650 is a lot cheaper. Hell, the TP-750 is cheaper than those and the TP-750 is better than the PC P&C 750W and Corsair TX750 in the same ways the TP-650 beats the HX620, except the PC P&C 750W and TX750 are not modular at all.

I think the 650HX is newer?

Starting from the 750/850HX, Corsair has been offering 7-yr warranty on them newer PSUs.

It's silver, wouldn't really match the colour scheme I'm going for, I'll be spraying the inside of the tempest black.

I don't have the heart to void a warranty over a colour scheme..

any facts to prove your claims? just cus it states higher amps on rails and such, doesn't necessairly means its better. the hx620 was well known for putting upto roughly a total of 720-750Wats of power..the psu itself is greatly UNDERRATED.

Check out the review on the TP-750.

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...Story&reid=140

It's a newer, better Seasonic platform than the HX620.

They are both still based on the Seasonic S12/M12 platform, except the HX650 has been slightly tweaked to hit 80plus Bronze. There aren't any reviews yet, but I wouldn't expect any major differences. The HX620 was already a good all around unit so I would expect the same with slightly more efficiency.

The Truepower New platform is a little better than the HX620. Not by much, but it is. We are really just splitting hairs here, although the Antecs can usually be found for much cheaper. As long as the HX650 is more of the same, it should be a close call between it and the Antec.
