So a few days ago before my MSI mobo decided to kick the bucket i was running my sigrig on a Rosewill 500w...anyways this was really the first time i had ever truly tried pushing the CPU and everything and my question is what's the possibility that the PSU was causing some of my instability or the cause of some of my crash's?
I made one P95 Run at 3 hours so this does kind of move the PSU back as the culprit but it is still a thought... I know i have read about users upgrading there PSU's and there systems stabilized and they were able to oc farther Now i would appreciate if those of you who have simply jumped on the "rosewill sucks" band wagon would resist posting...i am looking for answers and not recommendations PSU link - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817182009

Well, like it or not, it's true. I'd even prefer a low-range Thermaltake power supply over a Rosewill. It's not surprising that the less ripple and modulation (or whatever the terms are) make for a stable'er rig.

Simply put, Rosewill PSUs are lower quality and I am pretty sure they barely meet the power output they state. I would go as far as to say, yes, the PSU is not throwing out enough power as you need.

Your PSU is made by ATNG and has 32A available.
To be honest, it's not a very good PSU, but it should be enough. The chances of it being your PSU are slim, but not invisible. A sudden drop in voltage can cause a freeze, or cause a benchmark or whatever to fail, I've had it happen to me (My PSU sucks too). And the more you load the PSU, the higher ripple and less stable the voltages are, and its efficiency will drop. so there's a few factors, but your PSU could be one of them. Edit: So you know, the power supply has less than 400W available.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of complaints about Rosewill PSUs. Not saying that all of them are terrible, but most people I know from message boards says they have problems with this particular PSU.
OP- Get a better quality PSU with a known brand like Antec, Corsair, PC Power & Cooling, etc.

Oh i run a Corsair 550VX all the time but this time i was left with only my RP500 so i figured why not...well it only cost me 20$ so its fine for my secondary rig...

These particular ATNG built Rosewills are actually decent performers. The only real drawback is the use of sketchy caps (fuhjyyu) in some models like your RP500. And 26A on the 12V is awfully low for a rig like yours. PSUs pushed to their limits can cause erratic behavior, but not always. I would certainly say you were really pushing that Rosewill. You may be able to OC a little more if you used a PSU with more capacity, but there's no guarantees. The mobo's VRMs are quite good at filtering out any irregularities in the PSU's output. You would have to have a PSU performing horribly to affect an OC.
And most of Rosewill's PSUs aren't anything special, but I can't call them bad either. They were even able to get Solytech (aka Deer/Allied/L&C/etc...) to make them a few decent units which is extremely surprising.

I have both the RP550 (sigirg) and RP500 (brothersPC) and they are both a little over 2 years old. I have yet to have a power fluctuation or random reboot from either, in my personal experience they have been solid PSU's. As long as you keep the case adequately cooled you shouldn't run into any problems.

I know that the chances of the PSU holding back my OC are slim but i have my fingers crossed that my CPU has more than meets the eye
