Ok so my parents comp has been making a funny sound lately. I figured it was the rear fan and i would change it out one day. Well one day the whole thing died.... It would try and boot into windows then it just restart. I would then reboot and safe mode worked. I figured it was software so I did a restore point and it still did not work. Then I swapped out the ram, no good.
About this time the noise drove me crazy so I found out it was the psu. Changed that and the cd drive to a dvd burner. Went to reboot expecting to do a fresh install and it worked How is this possible? Has this happened to anyone else? Edit: currently am running orthos to make sure pc is not damaged by psu.

If psu squeal, always a good idea to replace it as you don't want it to ruin your hardware. Good thing you got that taken care of.

It was the fan making the noise.
