Default Need help with Multimeter settings..

Quick question. What do I set my multimeter to? Most guides on the net have said to put it at 20v DCV, however the one I have only has 10v DCV and 50v DCV with nothing in between.

Setting it to 10v DCV causes the hand to swing to the rightmost edge (my multimeter doesn't have a display...just a hand and labels)

And setting it to 50v DCV gives me a reading of +9v, which isn't right at all.

Can you calibrate it? RTFM

What does it read for resistance if you hook the two leads together?

Well it's a Sanwa(sp). A friend borrowed it just now so I can't remember the exact brand.

Not sure how to calibrate it since I'll admit I'm a newb at using these things.

Actually 50v DCV should give you a correct reading. As you noted the 10v DCV setting "maxed out" the needle, meaning it can't read anything over 10v DCV. Can't tell ya why it's only showing 9v with that setting. I'd recommend obtaining a digital multimeter if at all possible.

Well I'm not sure if it would be accurate. I mean, upping it to the next highest setting (100v DCV) lowered the reading even further to 6v.

Yeah, well I just ordered a 5870, so I'll recover a bit before picking up a new multimeter.
