4890s use around 200W under load at stock. Might be different in CF, but throw in an OC'd i7, and you're probably pulling over 900W on the +12V.

An HX1000 would probably be good enough, but if you really want to be safe get an Enermax Galaxy.

I'd suggest talking to G|F.E.A.D|Killa, since he's running 3 4890s on an HX1000.

Let's think here, I really do think it's better to stick with that psu and go 5870s or 5850s. I guess that a new PSU would be around 250< and 4890s are around 200 right? so that would be... 650? Plus monster load of wattage probably just for few extra fps. Seems like total waste of money right there.

YOur going to need way more power. Those cards require a huge amount of amps. Why is it always talk about watts and not amps? And I did not know that you could SLI an ATI video card.

IIRC, the jump from tri-fire to quad-fire is very minimal. Like maybe 10% improvement at the cost of more watts.

So basically what your saying is 4890's are too pricey and too power hungry for 'few extra fps', and your solution for all this excess of price and power is to go with 5870's or 5850's instead (while keeping the same PSU). That is fascinating!

that isnt as fun as 4 video cards

you could get by on a corsair 1000HX for your entire system and 4 4890s. but even then 3 4890s put my PSU under some stress and got it pretty warm, so expect some massive power draw from that badboy.

edit: I am dumb and I didn't read the title too well. I thought it said two 4890's. For four cards... probably not!... but you could always try it out and if it doesn't work then sell your psu and buy a more powerful one.

I think that the dual PSU is the way to go. You can get a nice, low power PSU for $50 for the board and molex.
