Default PSU for tri-crossfire hd 3870x2+hd3870

Hi all i got given a free hd 3870x2, whacked it in my pc hooked it all up but found the computer shuts down when a game starts with crossfire enabled and so i found my crappy 800watt EZ cool psu couldnt hack it. Now im looking to purchase one of these PSU's as i think they should be enough to power 3 hd 3870's but cant decide which one is the best....any help please.

I just purchased the OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W off Newegg in a $15 off Combo Deal with the MSI 790FX-GD70 motherboard, plus I got an extra $10 off with a promo code and not to mention it comes with a $30 Mail-in-Rebate. Retails for about $100 but in the end it's like I basically paid less then $50 for it! Plus its Modular, 80-Plus Certified, and SLI & Crossfire Ready. I haven't used it yet since my build isn't finished but I've seen many very good reviews on it and I recommend it to you as well.

Not familiar with the power usage on those cards but according to Neweggs Power Supply Calculator, your setup needs more then 700W.

Well that depends if this calculator is acurate because apparently i need over 1000 watts of power when i tried it. Ive read stuff about having more 12v+ rails will give better outage than a higher wattage PSU with less rails so thats why i thought the above PSU's would be sufficient but im so confused now.

Oh god... so much misinformation in this thread.

OP: A good 650W PSU could power your system, but I'd go with a 750W for future proofing's sake.

This PSU is what I'd get, personally. It has more than enough power and connectors for your rig, and is of a better build quality than any of the PSUs that you linked.

To be honest, 3870 Tri-Fire isn't really worth it anymore... how much are you going to be paying for the new card?

Sorry, I didn't read carefully enough.

That PSU is not better than the Antec when it comes to build quality, efficiency, voltage stability, ripple suppression, etc., but it will have a higher output than the Antec, but it's overkill for your system. Get the Antec, it's cheaper, and ultimately better. If you want more power, just get the 750W model, that's enough for most GPU setups currently, and will last you a long, long time.

I'd get the 750W model over the Tagan any day, and it's still cheaper.

Antec TruePower New 750W - £94.99.
