Default 750HX or 650TX?

I realized that the loud noise I get whenever I fold isn't my Ultra Kaze or my Accelero Twin Turbo, its the dinky little 80mm fan on my EA500.

So I figured its time for a new PSU!

I've narrowed it down to either a Corsair 650TX or 750HX. The TX is $105 shipped and the HX is $160 shipped.

You might think its totally overkill, but PSUs get noisier the closer they get to full load (hence my original problem) and I would like to be able to leave my computer on overnight to fold

So my main requirements are:

1. Needs to be quiet under load, and remaining quiet if I decide to get another 4870 would be nice as well.

2. The 8pin AUX cable needs to be long enough for my CM690.

Now the HX is modular, 80 Plus silver, the 8 pin AUX cable is a little longer, it has 4 PCIe power connectors, the cables are thin, and it looks badass in blue.

Is that worth the extra $55?

The 650TX is a great PSU. It will do all you need with that rig.

I say neither. =o)

This is what I'd go for, it's a SeaSonic built PSU loosely based on the M12D design, it's superior in terms of build quality to the TX650, and is slightly below the HX750 in that aspect. JonnyGuru did a review on it, it's worth looking up, he mentions that it's worth the extra money over the TX750.

If you're set on either PSU, however, I'd get the HX750. Not only is it more efficient, it also has better ripple suppression, more stable voltage, etc., has modular cables and looks better.

The cables on either the HX750 or the TX650 are long enough for your case.

The 650tx can do 52a/624w on 12v. It should be fine based on what you plus another 4870 but you can have better cable management with the 750hx. The antec 750 in meticadpa's post is a solid one also.

HX750 is you plan to upgrade (perhaps another card for folding ) or want better cable management, or TX650 if you want it for this rig and nothing more.

Your question basically is whether you should go modular or not.

Yes.

The TP-750 is barely modular though, and according to JonnyGuru it gets loud when it warms up and only has 2 PCIe connectors. I don't really see how its any better than the 650TX.

I wish he would review the 750HX
