Default Antec TP-550w problems?

Hey guys.
Yesterday at a clients house, they told me they had an older son who had moved out recently but left some PC parts behind and I could take whatever I wanted. I managed to grab this: http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=MTc1OA==

It seems like a really good PSU, but theres a downside. Ever since I installed it my PC has randomly been, lets say "crashing". No BSOD or anything. My monitor will just switch off suddenly, with the computer still running (but not executing code, because say if im playing music that will stop too). My first assumption is - dead/buggered PSU?

Can anyone give some input

Do you have a multimeter there? If so, you could test the voltages the that PSU is giving to the computer, software isn't accurate.

Also, make sure you're using the power cable that came with the power supply and that all connections are secured in tightly.

Good luck.

No I don't, but I think dad might, I'll ask him when he gets home. I am using all the power cables originated with the PSU, not any extenders, ect.

Hmm, dad only has one of these so I couldn't test it. I tried the old way, by using a paper clip into the green and black wires, and it worked fine..

The paper clip method will only tell you if you got power or not so your gonna need a voltage tester. Do you have a best buy or even better go to a local auto parts store and see it they can test it. Most of the time they will be happy to for free.

Hmm, I might take it to the local PC store and see if they can look at it or something with a multi-meter. Thanks

Do you have a spare PSU? Switch 'em out and see if it helps. That's the easy way.

By power cable, I mean the actual power cable, the one that plugs into the back of your power supply and the wall.

Yes I do. I only have a 320W that came with the case or a 250W thats for my server. The 320W works OK, but every now and then I get this nv4_disp.dll BSOD, which is to do with my GPU. But with the Antec I never got this BSOD.. weird
