Default Modular For Me?

As you can see, I currently have a bad brand, 700w PSU. I'm lucky though, because this particular one is supposedly one of the few Raidmax's that work. But I still feel that I need a new PSU that:

1. Is a decent brand
For obvious reasons...and because maybe the 700w rating isn't really 700w
2. Has good watts
I doubt I'll ever go ATI + Crossfire, and I'll probably get a few harddrives in the future, but other than that (and a ton more 120mm fans) I won't be adding anything power consuming, so perhaps 700w is overkill...how many do you think I need? (I heard that watts are overrated and you really dont need as many as you think)
3. Is modular
I'm painting my HAF, and cable management is a new focus for me.

I'm currently looking at newegg's list of modular PSUs...
Link

I'm also looking at these in particular:
Corsair 620w
Fatal1ty

Once again, I'm not sure how many watts I need, but I know I don't need a 800w $200 psu. I'm trying to stay around 100 bucks.

Suggestions would be appreciated =D

For your system, you could get away with a Corsair HX450.

But since most people like to have more headroom than that, I'll recommend something with a bit more power.

The Corsair HX520. Yes, it's enough for even a GTX 295 and E8400 together... I think you're covered with that.

It's one of the SeaSonic Corsairs, which have a slightly better build quality than their CWT brothers.

Or you could get the HX620, which is awesome too, and will last many years.

Hm, sounds good.

Right now I'm looking at the Corsair Modulars PSUs:

520w

620w

650w

520: $90 but nasty yellow and somewhat low wattage

620:
$120 + FS nice wattage + color

650:
$130 + FS nicer wattage + color

I'm wanting to paint whichever PSU I get to solid red anyway, so I guess the real question is 520 enough or should I get 620.

$30 difference...

620 just in case you decide to go quad or upgrade to a 8600

Modular power supplies are less efficient because they tend to loose voltage in the modular interface plugs due to more resistant materials. They also use lower quality materials that corrode and burn quicker. Also make sure you're buying a single rail because when using multiple rails you have power losses of up to 30% because it is not being utilized/drawn in efficiently.

To be honest, you'll probably not need the extra power, but if you've got the money, you should go for it.

The HX620 really has an extra 120W available on the 12V rail.

Edit: Ignore everything the guy above me, with the fake sig rig said.

So what does an extra 120W on the 12V provide me with? Future-proofing wise.

My fear is that I go cheap and then later need the wattage.

120W is a lot, to be honest. That's roughly how much a super-fast dual core will take up, or is nearly enough for a HD5850 GPU.

You could easily run CrossFire 5870s with a quad core on the HX620, whereas I'd be somewhat... scared to do so on the HX520.

Oh awesome, it's one of these people...

I'm 14, yeah. You're right.

While your statement about a modular unit being slightly less efficient, is true, the rest of what you said is however false.

If it wasn't, do you think the best performing power supply reviewed to date on www.JonnyGuru.com would be 100% modular? No.

Don't assume that I'm náive just because I'm young, that's a dangerous stereotype to make, just like any other.

Here is the link to the power supply, the SeaSonic X-650.

And do you really think I'd have gotten a fairly high amount of rep with providing false information and giving silly recommendations? No, of course not.

Anyway, that's the end of that, and I'm not going to take up any more room in the OP's thread since it's not about me and you. If you still have a problem with me, feel free to PM me.
