I have a fairly old PSU, But it is running my GTX260 right now. So doesn't the new ATI GPU's use less Power than last gen GPU's. I want to buy one of these new ATI GPU's but I am not sure if my PSU can run it?

i would say no your psu won"t be strong enough and you will need at least a 650W psu my opinion.

Don't the new cards idle at like, 27W and max at 120W?
I still wouldn't do that though. Definitely go for a 650 like Ladiesman said. Great stuff will be had with Corsair

Yes, it will power a 5870. Minimum recommended is a 500w psu with a 600w for sli mode.
with a full system, at stock, at full load, it will draw ~350w. I too, would still recommend getting something higher wattage but will you kill your PSU? I highly doubt it.

Your psu will likely run it fine, but for how long is another story all together.
Your best bet and what I highly recommend would be to Upgrade your PSU to a quality 520w or higher power supply, and possibly skimp to a 5850 to allow cost of PSU. Some good brands are: Antec, Corsair, Pc power and Cooling, Thermaltake, OCZ, silverstone, Seasonic, Cooler master. No specific order. Others saying 650w, well it is not needed but allows more wiggle room.

due to the 36 amp 12 volt rail, that is a yes. since it is not quality, 550 is more like 500.
Systems like that won't do 500. 5870 pulls around 200 watts tops load, lets say 100 watts for your processor. I would say yes, you are fine and would run it.

When did the sparkle name become low quality? They make solid PSU's at affordable prices. Buying a different 550w PSU won't improve much.

And I beg to differ. Buying a much higher quality psu will help in the long run.
