Quick fix for anybody with a bad fan
I recently got a Sunbeam Nuuo 550W, and I was very please with it until one day something went wrong... (dun dun duuun...)
...buuut I fixed it lol. Just wanted to give you all a heads up if you happen to order this excellent power supply.
One day I turned it on and immediately it sounded as if a fan was cutting into plastic. It turned out to be the 80mm back fan doing it; it was cutting into the inside of the PSU.
The cause of the problem was that the construction of the 80mm fan structure was very slightly (<1mm) recessed into the PSU; heck it's a cheap fan, and the chances of this...I've never heard of a problem of this before, so it's probably just a bad luck thing.
So, with the help of my lil sister, I opened it via the back fan grill, threaded regular string tape through the 80mm fan support, and then through the fan grill, and then closed it up and tied the string tied to the grill.
Instant fix, and I will replace the fan someday anyway; 99% of 80mm fans are noisy to begin with.
