Default Quick help choosing a PSU

Hey everyone, I'm building my first computer soon. The specs will be those outlined in my system specs below. I was going to go with a Thermaltake 430W PSU for $40. However, I'm not sure if I should make the jump to a 480W Thermaltake for $60. I'm probably not going to be OCing for awhile, and when I do, it'll be a small leap (taking the 3200+ Venice from 2.0 stock to 2.2 or something real small).

I'm getting the GeForce 6800GS, as you can see. That's recommended a minimum of a 350W supply. Can I get away with a 430W no problem, or do I need more for my specs?

If thats all you can buy that should run the system. It is never a good idea though to skimp on the psu both in watage and price. I would say a 450-500W PSU would be optimal. also dont buy the cheapist one, as they tend to be junk. Thermaltakes are pretty good, but there are better ones like the OCZ Powerstreams, Antec, and others. People will be along shortly to suggest their favorites...hopefully.

Here's the 480W: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153007

That looks fine but...you have me shaky saying it "should" run the system. I used this online calculator and it claims I don't need even 400, really.

Actually, I was just pointed to this one, told it was real good. Has nice ampage on the 12v, it's 500W, a good company, and well priced.

Look at the 12+v rating!!!
24a for a typical system is the minimum.
The "watt" rating on many PSs are misleading

What about the CONCORD I linked to? That has 34A on the +12V. That's solid, yes? I should expect little fluctuation with that.

Good spec on the 12v for sure... I'm just not firmiliar with the brand.

the Aspire psu's are decent.... but once again you can do better. I had a 500w Aspire that came w/ my case. (it's basically the one you pointed to except I think that one has a 24pin atx connector and mine had a 20pin) it ran my system alright...
stock clocked 3200+ venice
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
single DVD burner
MSI 6600GT
audigy 2 zs
floppy
5 case fans
dual 12" uv cold cathodes

when I added a second dvd burner, another fan and a second 6600GT for SLI I noticed a slight voltage fluctuation... well there was alwasy a small one, but it got bigger. I tried to OC my cpu and it got bigger... i was unable to keep a decent OC w/o my psu voltages fluctuating.

I replaced my psu w/ my current one. Seasonic S12-600... and was able to add another pair of 4" uv cold cathodes, a 7800Gt and I was able to get a much higher OC.

In my experience Aspire makes some decent psus. they are by no means the best, but they are better than many. I would not buy an Aspire psu if you want a high end gaming rig or you are planning on OC'ing in the future.

if you can spend a little more money I would suggest the sunbeam nuuo. it costs about 80 and is probably the best psu you can get in the sub 100 range.

Well look at my specs. That's my "gaming rig" right there. Will the CONCORD support that fine?
