Default Hiper Type-R 580W - Extra Cables?

Hey,

Sorry for all these questions guys but im being real cautious!

Well i have a Hiper Type-R 580W PSU and was wondering why there are 3 cables exactly the same?

I'm currently putting together this rig as we speak, i have all the parts.

I plugged the 20+4 cable into the motherboard, then i notice there are like 5/6 more cables on the PSU, 3 of the being exactly the same, 3 female 4 holes in a straight line, they all plug into the motherboards 4 male pins in a straight line connector, but i am wondering if each cable is different?
I wouldn't want to put the wrong one in, and it says nothing in the manual! The PSU's manual is real crap, its like 6 pages long and has really no help at all!

Thanks, plus i would take pics to help because i'm really not good at explaining myself by my cam is broken at the moment (getting repaired )

Thanks a bunch!!!

Are you referring to the molex connections? Are they 4x1 or 2x2 pins? Usually a PSU will come with 3 strings of 3-4 molex connectors on it in case you use a lot of HDD's, DVD/CD-ROM's, etc..

EDIT:

Quote:
Since this is a new power supply, it comes loaded with the proper gear for today's equipment and a few innovations that other manufacturer's need to take note of. The ATX power is 24 pin with the break-away 4 pin to adapt it to 20 pin motherboards. Unfortunately the ATX connector only extends 16 inches so if you are running a large case or a cube you will want to either measure carefully first or purchase an ATX extender. The PSU also comes with a 4 pin 12V and a 6 pin PCI-E connector, a pair of SATA power connectors that can each handle two drives, another 6 pin extension, a 4 pin floppy adapter, and four 4 pin Molex extension that each feature a pass-through connection. There are four 4 pin Molex cables that run directly from the PSU and they wisely made each one a different length from 22 inches down to 11 inches so you can power up a device without having to worry about hiding a lot of excess. Each one of these four cables feature an easy-grip Molex to save on busted knuckles.

You should be fine, just use the 20+4 to plug into your mobo, it appears the rest are molex connectors, and sata connectors. The PSU is modular so you can add or take away the cables (which is probably why there are so many, some people have gigantic daisy chains going).

Hope that helps!

you'll have a load of extra stuff on your psu. Don't worry about it. As long as all your drives have power & your gfx card and mobo you'll be fine. Dont start plugging things in that dont need to be plugged in.

Thanks guys, i heard what you said and...

I have the ATX 24 pin connector in, a molex with extensions on connecting the floppy, CD-RW and DVD-RW.
Now there is a 4 pin (2X2) wich slots into the motherboard, but it says nothing in the manual about this!

Should i put the 4 pin (2by2) connector straight into the mobo?
and there is also a 4 pin(1X4) slot on the mobo, one of the molex cables fit into it, should i plug it in, im wondering then, because why would it be there if is doesn't get used?

Plus i have a PCI-E card and it requires no plug to go into it, i just slotted it in and that's it, you said that PSU had a PIC-E cable, i found it and cant see anywhere on my X700 that it will slot into?!

Thankyou.

o yea, and its the non modular version, exact same PSU, just cant take the cables out!

You'll need to plug in all connectors into the motherboard. The square 4-pin is needed for all P4 and higher lever CPUs (including AMD's counterparts). The 4-pin molex is needed to supply extra power for the PCI-E bus (esp. necessary for a PCI-E card that does not have the 6-pin connector). Verify this in your motherboard manual.

Some lower-level PCI-E cards don't have the 6-pin connector (they don't need that much power). This includes the nVidia 6600 series and the X700 series from ATI (probably some exceptions.)

Alright, well I'm downloading your mobo manual now, but it is going EXTREMELY slow. Try looking in it if you can, or you can try downloading it here. With my KT400 Dragon board, the molex connector on the mobo was obsolete, it was to enable some sort of feature with AGP I believe that I did not need, so I just unplugged it and left well enough alone. Your manual should cover this.

It looks like Chozart beat me to the rest of what I was going to say, so good luck and post more questions if you have any.

EDIT: Wrong mobo manual link. The correct one is here + requires no unzippage.

Found it:

Quote:
Make sure to connect the EZ Plug when using two PCI Express graphics cards and a 20-pin ATX power supply unit, or if the graphics cards do not have auxiliary power plugs. See page 2-24 for the location of the EZ Plug connector.
The connector is above the first PCI-Express slot. It is depicted in the manual as a 4-pin molex connector aka the 'EZ Plug'. Plug it in only if you want to, or if the conditions quoted above are met.

dont worry about the molex by the pci-e ports. ints not realy usefull unless your not getting enough power to your video card. if your lucky, therl be an led on your mobo that turns on it your video card has insuficiant power but i dont know about your board.
