I bought this drive at MicroCenter for $69.99 It's big enough to house an install of Windows 8.1 64 bit and still have about 60gb left for games and programs. Speedwise there's no comparison between this drive and the 5400rpm Sata drive it replaced. Windows 8 installed in about 10 minutes, and my boot time between pressing the power button and logging into Windows is about 5 seconds. Load times between areas on Skyrim with the 2K texture pack are a fraction of what they were with my old drive.
The included mounting bracket is pretty cheesy. It is simply a thin plastic spacer that attaches to the face of the drive with double-sided tape. I was expecting one of the cage style brackets that would allow me to mount it like a traditional SATA drive. Because of this I was only able to mount it with 2 screws, as the mounting holes did not line up with all of the holes in my drive caddy.
Overall a 4 star drive- A better bracket would have made it a 5.
I bought one of these drives on Black Friday for $59.99. Kingston at the time started to replace the drives with a super slow speed chip compared with the previously fast speed. What this meant is that the advertised speeds were cut by 80%. A drive that was comparable to Samsung drives suddenly became a joke.
At the price you're paying for, $69.99, you're getting ripped off. Assuming Microcenter isn't using old stock, you're getting a tier 1 SSD at a significantly higher price than it should be selling at. At that price, you would get better returns with a Crucial, Samsung, or Intel.
I made the mistake buying this drive - just here to warn others. I'm not buying a Samsung 250GB for $140. Can't believe I got scammed by Kingston. I'm never doing business with them again.
Its a good drive to boost pref on an older PC, I own 2 of them. Its rated at sata III, yet on my z77 motherboard it will only run at sata II speeds even on a sata III port. Mine might be buggy on that part but on the wife's PC its also doing the same thing. If you can get teh drive for 55 dollars then its a good deal but personally I would not do it again with this brand.
Pros
Cons
Its cheap and good usable size
only 32meg of cashe , slow read rates
