Very attractive, quality, RAM.

review by jolly roger

I have been loyal to Corsair from the very beginning of my PC building days. But after a I had two different sets fail memtest on me I decided to give GSkill a try. After looking at several different sticks, I decided to go with the Trident series.?

They come simply, but nicely packaged in a clear plastic case, with a decent looking product card as a backer. The sticks themselves feel very heavy in your hand (for RAM), and the feel of them gives you the sense of quality. The heatsinks are perfectly machined with no visible defects. The coating is uniform and smooth. The red upper part of the HS is coated in a somewhat matte finish, while the lower black part of the HS is nearly a nearly flat finish. The upper heatsink can be removed by unscrewing two screws from the sides. I have not yet tried this, I have heard some experience problems with it, but from what I can see it should be no problem. When you hold the RAM sideways and look at its profile, the upper heatsink has the shape of the traditional Trident spear, which really is a nice touch.?

The labeling is OK. Nothing too great, but definitely better than some. The UPC/hologram/part number sticker will face out on AMD boards, and will be hidden on Intel boards. (At least from what I have seen.) This is kind of annoying, but not too big of a deal.

The PCB is a nice deep black which just adds to their beauty.?

They run at 1866MHz on 1.6V out of the package, but with 1.65V I was able to get them to run easily at 2100+MHz with a 4.8GHz CPU overclock. ?Timings at 9-11-10-28. I haven't tried to tighten those timings yet, but I may.?

I currently run an FX8350 on a Sabertooth 990FX with a Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme cooler. As long as I put the two fans on the back and middle slot of my cooler, and I put the RAM sticks in the 2nd and 4th slot the RAM fits just fine. And it looks like the Silver Arrow and the Trident sticks were meant to go together. They make an attractive pair.?

So far I am very pleased with my purchase, and would recommend these sticks to anyone wanting very versatile RAM that performs well all the while looking excellent in your case.?

ProsCons
SOLID construction, inrticate design, great performance.Label shows on AMD boards.
