So about three years ago I bought six of these fans. And ultimately over those three years I have been pretty happy with these fans. They were the most promising 140mm radiator fans available to me at the time. After three years three of the fans are still functioning. But the three that failed did not fail due to bearings but rather what appears to be the fragility of the plastic the impeller is made from. The hubs of the fans had cracked. But because I have enjoyed these fans so much I bought three more to replace them.
THE GOOD:
Ultimately I recon these are pretty decent fans. They provide pretty good airflow. At least according to my hand. The bearing is good quality and has long life. Every 6 months to a year I would simply pop the impeller out, lube up the shaft and add oil into the well. Pop back in and ready to go again. They are also pleasantly quiet at low RPM.
THE AVERAGE:
These fans can be noisy at full tilt. But it isn't a whiney or annoying sound. I would describe it as rushing air with the low hum of the blades spinning. It will annoy you if you are a quiet freak. But to the average user I think the noise level is acceptable.
The bad.
The impeller plastic is of questionable quality. After three years three out of six of them had cracked. The other three are still going strong however. Some samples can have poorly balanced impellers. But I have felt worse. (looking at you Specter Pro) other samples are very well balanced. Now days Aerocool's own DS fans are a more attractive alternative to the watercooling crowd seeking something with more pressure. The Sharks are better these days as an airflow fan.
Bottom line.
Before the DS fan came along these were my go to 140mm rad fan. And even now they are still pretty good. But ultimately the Aerocool DS is the better bet on a radiator due to thicker and wider fan blades. I bought three more to replace the three I broke because the DS isn't sold in South Africa. Other wise I would of chosen DS for radiator duty. However the Sharks are still good for light to moderate restriction applications. Noise is subjective, but I reckon they are quite reasonable. And the long life bearing will keep you going for some time. They also look BRILLAINT. Especially the blue LED models. And my painted ones.
Pros
Cons
Decent airflow. Quiet at low RPM. HDB bearing. Look awesome. Long life. Cheapish.
Fragile hub. Can get slightly loud. Poor balance on some samples. Beaten by the newer DS fans.
