Gigantic mousepad for modders...

review by ypsylon

So why should I care about review of anti-static mat you ask yourself.

A valid question.

I feel obliged to share my experiences (albeit short) and compare it with competing ModMat Xtreme from ModRight.

First the good stuff:

1. It's much cheaper than ModRight product which imported to EU is stupendously overpriced for what it is.
2. Material is very nice, soft and sleek.
3. Because it's not raw rubber hands stay warm if doing work in cool place.
4. It maybe standard overall, but routine is worst advisor sometimes and I like the dimensions of tubing, mounting holes for pumps and stuff instead of clean black or ancient CPU socket dimensions found on ModRight mat.

5. Working with acrylic blocks or tubing is very safe. Unless you're really messy builder, because of soft surface risk of damaging (scratching) is negligible.
6. Weight. Much, much lighter than solid rubber. If you move in a hurry it's like carrying big mousepad not a brick.

Cons:

1. Well it's not for every mod task you may imagine. Because it's not rubber only rubberized foam-like (think gigantic mousepad - structure underneath is like on e.g. Steelseries mouse pads I have only thicker) material you should be aware that working with very heavy cases on it is at best problematic. Cutting surface is very real possibility if not careful.
2. While providing anti-static capabilities there is a problem with cleaning it completely from dust. It's not rubber, it's soft material like surface (don't know exactly how to name it - not an expert by any stretch). If you need sterility for a moment or two keep in mind that wiping rubber clean is very easy but Eisplateau surface remains somewhat spongy for a short while.
3. Bottom measuring ruler is also not ideal. If pinpoint precision is required then ModMat Xtreme scores here another point. Rubber is solid and doesn't move anywhere. Eisplateau surface bends when pressed, so you can potentially be off by millimeter or two and all precise measuring is for nothing. You can measure precisely, but don't apply too much pressure when marking (or apply equal across whole item).

Overall I'm very happy with Eisplateau despite some shortcomings. It's better than MM Xtreme in some places and worse in others. You know the best if you need very heavy duty mat or a mat for lighter, delicate workload. For this Eisplateau is perfect.

ProsCons
Very nice material, Very soft surface, Price. Not for heavy and very heavy duty stuff.
