FX-8320... A very underated CPU.

review by *ka24e*

I recently acquired an FX-8320 and was honestly shocked at how quick it was compared to my various Intel setups. The many reviews give it no justice. As stated above, this is a very underrated CPU. The price to performance ratio of this CPU is through the roof.

My only con that I could give this CPU was heat output. It's not an issue at all with proper water cooling or decent air cooling. Even at very high clocks, heat was very manageable with a decent water loop. Overall it's a non-issue, just don't expect to use a cheap air cooler.

If your considering getting an FX-8320 or 8350, and have the proper cooling (if your overclocking) I would highly suggest the FX-83xx series CPU's. You won't regret your purchase.

ProsCons
Very quick CPU, Price, Overall usability. Heat

Awesome CPU for the price

review by an65001

Unlike what most Intel advocates say, the FX-8320 (and the FX line of CPUs in general) is a great CPU, especially for the price you can get one at. I've had mine for 7 months now and I am impressed at the amount of overall performance it gives. If I was to put a nice closed loop cooler, and some good RAM, I could get to overclocking this bad boy, but for now it'll have to wait. But even at 3.5Ghz this CPU is no slowpoke. It's been a great overall improvement to what I've been using over the years, and I have nothing but praises for it. Although it may not OC as far as the 8350, its still better for the price. So if you're looking for a CPU that performs very well and doesn't cost so much, look no further.

ProsCons
Gives great performance for it's price, 8 cores for better multi-tasking, can be overclocked to a good amount. Not as good as the 8350 when overclocking.

Overclocking the 8320 is tons of fun, as long as you have a motherboard that can handle it.

FX 8320 works great my MSi 890GXM-G65

review by onceugobe

I have three systems, that I upgrade a bit at a time. With my cart already bulging from Xmas shopping, I was able to add this for 119.00. I love Microcenters agressive volume pricing. Even though my (three) 890GXM-G65 mainboards dont show chip support, I bought it anyway because I have a lower rung FX board in my parts bin, as a backup.

Ultimately, it was as easy as removing my 8120, apply new Artic Silver, select the function key for optimized boot in Bios. At stock speed Windows Blue Screened at the desktop. No Big. I went back to Bios and selected my 8120's 4.4 overclock profile. It has worked smoothly ever since.

With the Piledriver, everything happens just a bit faster. Biggest visible dif from the Bulldozer is a lover Vcore voltage. OCCT and my video editing software can't shake it up, so I will call it stable for my needs.

It took me two tries to suceed. My second and successful installation was done in my workstation, with a good PSU (Antec 750 CGP) and elaborate cooling (for chip, vrm, sb, nb so on so forth).

My first attempt failed when I tried to install it on my Internet computer. Its 65 watt Athon II is stable and dependable, but old. I thought I was ready for this chip upgrade, but my undoing was that I relied on a Ultra 750 LSP to power a 125 watt FX chip. In my defense, the errors did not scream PSU problems.

The Piledriver would overheat, under load, at idle, in Windows, in bio, at stock speed. I underclocked to 2ghz, put every fan at 100 percent and it still ran hot.

As such I did not realize my PSU was underperforming. Suspecting the 8320 chip I swapped it for the 8120 (supported by this board) and it ran great, at 4.4 ghz for about two hours. Then, while on Zynga it BSOD, locked up repeatedly on Windows boot, mouse freeze, etc.

Finally, the PSU fingered itself when it started exhibiting switching issues.

One last thing. Piledriver cools fine on air at 4.4. But I have a huge heatsink, with three fans. One controlled by bios, one by speedfan and the third by Sentry 3.

ProsCons
Faster and smoother than Bulldozer, Conveniently, I was able to use my FX 8120 OC profileThe chip will alert you if your PSU and system cooling are not in top shape.

Great price/performance ratio... if everything is multithreaded

review by matthewgb

+ 8 cores - Need I say more
+ 3.5GHz --> 4.7 GHz OC - Overclocks very well (May vary based on silicon lottery)
+ Mutiplier unlocked

- 8 cores - Difficult to use in most cases... most games use 2-3 cores max
- 125W - Must replace stock cooler with anything
- Bad stock cooler - What idiot put a tiny, tiny fan and made up for it with 5500RPM!? It's loud at idle, and a jet engine at full load.

ProsCons
8 cores, 3.5GHz stock, overclocks very easily and well8 cores, 125W TDP, bad stock cooler

Newer Models (meaning recent packaging) Have MUCH better Stock Cooler now. The package is larger than the original Tins.(yes they were still in tins when i got my first one)

this is the new cooler they showed off recently @ CES 2016 i believe?

Help my best friend build his first "modern computer " in about 10+ years (he was an early adopter of the q6600), and His chip came with one of these. he got a fx8320 from late 2015 (1538 pgs i wanna say)

didn't go above 40* during the entire install. i've still to go back and help him lock down settings and burn in a little but for a no overclock system, these new stock heatsinks are just Just enough and MUCH MUCH more impressive than anything intel give you.
