Tough looking, silent and powerful single-tower cooler
review by foxtrot814
Summary:
Scythe Ashura is a large, cool looking, effective and silent cooler. One of the top single tower air coolers. In 4.5 GHz test it outperformed Megahalems Rev. C (with Red Vortex 12 LED) by a staggering 4.5?C. GlideStream 140 PWM fan is silent and powerful. It doesn't make annoying mechanical sound, only at high speed air flow can be clearly heard. However that is to be expected out of fan that pushes nearly 100 CFM. Mounting system is a standard mechanism with brackets+holding bar. Only a bit harder compared to some other coolers due to its size. Fan mounts are very rigid and hard to mount with cooler installed in the case. Asymmetrical design provides perfect clearance with tall RAM module heatspreaders.
Bought it. Returned it. It looks great on paper but it can't be mounted on my asrock z77 OC Formula. The widest positioned heatpipes interfere with the MOBO heatsink just enough to cause problems.
WARNING: If you have tall MOBO heatsink, it might not be compatibile because of the outer heatpipes.
The glidestream fans are great, though. I reccomend them for usage on any other tower heatsink. They have 12cm mounting holes so you can use them on standard 12cm heatsinks. And the RAM clearance is truly great with Ashura.
