Pros: The RGB Aura has a nice look on the Republic of Gamers logos, Simple software to use and has plenty out of the box power, purchased it at a good price

Cons: Lacking on the Overclocking abilities, the bottom lighting is weak, the software can be buggy.

Asus has been a brand that I have counted on for almost 20 yrs and several builds that have powered my graphics cards and motherboards, so I decided to look into this card and then purchased it despite the negative reviews on the Egg, at $200 it was not a bad deal. I was intrigued by the overclock out of the box and how much further I could take. If further overclocking was not possible I still had a good graphics card for gaming and the VR. Now lets get into my first thoughts of the card.

The Asus Strix RX 480 08GB card is a beautiful card lit up and not, it is 11.22 inches (248.00mm) long. You will need a decent size case to house this behemoth but that seems to be the way of graphic cards these days. it is decorated with the ROG logo on the back plate by the power adapter, this along with the "Republic of Gamers" printed on the side of the case as well as on the bottom are slots slightly curving with the fans, these are a pleasure to the eye when they are able to be seen. The only complaint is leds near the fans appear to be weak and do not light up the case that much below the GPU, this could be due to the size of the case that it is in. Next is the software that controls the RGB.

The software that controls the RGB is really simple and self explanatory from the moment you open it for the first time. There are 6 options, 1) static, stays on as a one solid color 2)strobe,turns off and on, you can also select the color of your choice 3)breathing a slow lighter to brighter light, you can also select the color of your choice 4)color cycle, this changes colors as it flashes you are not able to select a color, 5) music, this flashes to the music 6) my favorite and the is it shows you the approximate temperature of your card via the color of the leds, 40 green and 80 being full blown red. This software appeared to be buggy at first but when updated it I had no problems with it.

Finally on to what we all love here at OC.net. Like I said at the beginning I purchased the card for its out of the box oc two modes 1310Mhz and 1330Mhz but respectful, but that is not good enough for us here at OC.net. So I played with the card to burn it in with Doom and other games one long night at a lan party. I have to say I surprised the young folks at the party because the last time I was there they where handing it to me, not that night.biggrin.gif While running Vulcan API, in Doom, I was getting 170- 200 FPS and holding my own. After that nigh I wondered how much more could I squeeze out of this beautiful beast. I was able to an over clock of 1440 as other reviews were. The only problem with this OC is that it wasn't stable for me on my system. I believe that it is either my motherboard (most likely), 1155 board or PSU issue. You may have better results than myself.

Over all I am very happy with my purchase and its performance.. I have to say that the Asus software has improved since I last used it . The card has range and should be able to be OCed further if properly cooled through the fan profile and enough power given to it.
