Asus M4A785-M AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

This Asus board is a pretty fantastic budget board in my opinion, I used it in my first PC that I built. It had nice features in it that found nice. Including onboard audio that had 8 channels, onboard ATI 4290 graphics, and lots of places for USBs.

I used a AMD Athlon II X2 in it and the board unlocked it to an X3. This board also has a very robust BIOS with many features and its easy to learn to overclock in.

I haven't had any problems with this board at all, its been running for almost three years now, and I use it in my room running a AMD Athlon II X2 @ 3.4Ghz - 1.42v - 6GB of GSKILL DDR2 - and a Nvidia 8800GTS folding as well. It makes a fantastic home media PC and folds when its not watching movies or anything, overall I love this board, it was what I needed it for and I've never had any problems with it.

I had hells trying to get this board to work. One day the board would work fine next day it wouldn't even post not a beep from the system speaker. I tried each and every troubleshooting known to man to no avail almost lost my mind trying to get this board up and running but had no luck.

I bought this board 2 years ago and just replaced it last month. I would have kept this board longer if it used DDR3. The board pairs nicely with a 955B that can be overclocked to 4.0 MHz stable using the boards bios features. The board has 1 PCIe x16 2.0, 7.1 Surround audio, 6 xSATA 3 Gb/s IDE support and on board ATI HD 4200 with HDMI out. You have full control of MOBO functions in the bios for NB, SB memory timings, voltage etc. and I was suprised as how well it worked. I was able to get 4.2 MHZ stable from a 955B just using AMD overdrive. Two years and I never had a problem with this hardware.This is a great option if you want to upgrade and still have DDR 2 memory. I would highly recommend this board.

This board was a part of my first budget gaming build and for the the price of 79.99 it took a huge amount of abusive overclocking. Still running strong after 2 years of running 24/7. Run this board with PHIIx4 at 3.6, 785G NB at 2700, SB710 at 1800, running RAM at CAS 4 1066. Voltage is a little hard to handle as a 4-pin 12v connector, and VRM's without passive or active cooling are limits for this board. Vdroop was always and issue, but with aftermarket Enzotech heatsinks and some extra fan placement this board screams! Asus BIOS was proven and effective for overclocking allowing for adjustment of many variables especially with a Black Edition processor. Asus says this board takes the 6 core processors but I would advise against this due to the increased amount of voltage through the VRM's. The onboard VGA/HDMI HD 4200 series chip was nice for me in the days before I could afford a graphics card, once I could the single PCIe 2.0 x 16 did its job, however this board being a uATX limits options for multiple GPU setups. The 10/100/1000 Mbps Realtek LAN is a nice addition for data transfer between networked systems. Overall best board for the price hands down for me!
