Very Uninspired, overpriced

review by robitussin

This board has been a terrible mistake since day one. After coming from a consistent EVGA board I decided to try out the "competition" and have been thoroughly dissatisfied. I can and have fixed most of the problems and most people on this site will be able to do so as well I would hope but for someone with out much knowledge this is not the board for them.

USB errors occur when you have a kb/mouse plugged in before flashing the most recent bios and persist through the flash.

The "EZ" Flash bios doesn't work- the program just locks up or doesn't work at all on win 7

The inordinate amount of bloatware they bundle with this mobo is ridiculous. Most users here know not to use the CDs included but I thought I should include this as well since I tried them out and was disappointed. Also drivers don't recognize GTX590 and I saw all these "cool things" although I do like that it came with a year of free Kaspersky AV, I'm still using that.

Issues recognizing my SSD says "no hard drive detected" still boots fine and works just another minor annoyance.

It really hated my Mushkin Redline ram for the longest time continually giving me a 0x0126(124?) code until I allowed it to use its own timings (which weren't bad) just again annoying. Also still randomly will freakout when left alone too long playing media, have memtested ram and indiviual sticks and never had this problem on previous build with same ram.

**If you're having problems with the rear panel USB ports shutting down here is the best solution.
1. Uninstall your 3.0 USB software.
2. Shutdown
3. Unplug everything from rear panel USB
4. Attach your keyboard mouse to the USB ports on the face of the board (i.e. the place where you plug in your case's front usb ports, attach your stuff there. Also you can use the extension that comes with the board). Basically have nothing attached to the rear panel USB ports.
5. Press and hold the CMOS button on the rear panel for 10 seconds to reset the BIOS (your computer should be off)
6. Power on the computer with a fresh BIOS (you can go into the BIOS to save the fresh one if you want)
7. Stat up everything (no USB on rear panel yet)
8. Install the software FROM THE ASUS SITE
9. After installation you can now plug things into the rear panel
10. Problem fixed! (The reason IMO is that there is a conflict of plugging in the keyboard mouse before installing the latest bios)

ProsCons
Looks Nice, Multiple ConnectionsUSB continually errors out even after bios flash**, tons of bloatware included in CDs, issues with Mushkin ram, issues with HDD detection on 3 ports

A breeze to Overclock with for beginners.

review by man|ac

I recently upgraded from the 775 platform and have been bewildered with excitement at the ease of overclocking with this board. It has so many tweaks you can use to get temps and power usage down whilst maintaining a steady OC. I didn't have the issues some have had hence the bias opinion. THis SB motherboard was well worth the upgrade. THe new chips dont hurt either.

ProsCons
Easy to overclock with most settings on auto (latest bios) Vdroop can be massaged via bios a bit without a risky pencil mod.Cant use TRI sli with dual slot cards and sound card. Price isnt cheap if you don't overclock OR use at least two video cards.
