My Matrix GTX 580
Pros: Super fast, Super cool, Loads of features, For the extream ocer
Cons: More expensive, 3 slot, limited documentaion
So ive had my Matrix for about 3 months now. I had a fantastic Zotac 560ti before this card and was wanting some extra power so i went card hunting. I looked at alot of cards before picking this card. I wanted a card that offered more than just sat in a case i also wanted something "premium". There were really only two cards, this and the MSI Lightning Extream. Both cards cost more and the MSI was about $50 more again over the Matrix.
I like the fact the card has the ablility to burn new settings to the bios without relying on an oc utility as Afterburner which can have its own set of issues. I have the ablility to return the card to stock by a safety button on the card itself. The Matrix can also allow you to play with the memory settings and allows for overvoltage via hardware buttons on the card itself. Ive managed to run my card to 1.293v and oc to 1027 stable in heaven 2.5 and 3d mark11. There is a load indicator led on the face of the card which changes color depending on the load. Very nice to look at and adds alot of blingbling. There is also a nice backplate which names the card. The backplate can be scrached very easy so be carefull when laying down the card on the backplate. The backplate offers no extra cooling for the card, its more of a looks thing. Several led lights are on the pcb to indicate various system features such as two green leds at the connection points for the power wires. These will show red if there is not enough power or green to show its all good. Also the overvoltage buttons are lit up and have led strip lights that go from green into red showing the amount of overvoltage which is being added to the card. I forgot to mention there is a 100% fan button that lits up also which can instantly bring both fans to 100% without needing to use a utility to do it for you. Using gpu tweak you have the ability to control both fans at seporate speeds, this can only be done with the Matrix card-other Asus cards have both fans locked to a speed and cant be controlled seperatly.
Heat was not an issue with the Matrix, i was able to max my voltages out to 1.150 and add more with the overvoltage buttons on the card. The card kept heat down to 80c or there about while benchmarking. Very nice to see and the sound is almost not exsistant untill fans ram up to 100%. Lows are around upper 20c and perhaps low 30s while room temp is around 76f. The cards shroud does tend to hang to one side low, the way its attached is the cause for this but other than the look no bad effects.
Ive not kept the card stock for long. Ive done several mods now including removing the intigrated heat sink and adding a Corsair H70 Hydro Series cpu cooler and romoved the stock cooling solution. My temps can go as low as 20c now and max is 61c but most times will chug along at 27-42c depending on what task i am doing.
Great card, good value and a wonderful overclocker.
