The Audinst HUD-mx1 is one of the most recommended entry level USB DACs on the market, and it's for a good reason. This DAC has a flat sound signature that is perfect for the budget or up and coming audiophile. It also has a very capable headphone amp that can drive headphone with up to 600Ohm impedance.
Initially when I purchased this item, I was not very happy with it as I could not hear much difference between it and my Xonar DX, however as I tested it over a couple of days I really noticed a difference. Especially with the difference in sound-stage. The Audinst has a bigger sound stage than the Xonar, and overall a crisper sound, which can really be appreciated when playing music at a high volume (both in headphones and speakers).
I would definitely recommend this DAC for anyone wanting a good quality, audiophile grade sound card or DAC on a budget.
