The reason this card is one of the better non-Tahiti 7870s is because of Gigabyte's custom PCB. Gigabyte took the 7870 and replaced it's memory chips with Hynix memory so they perform a bit better at the same speed. if you only have 1K to spend on a GPU you may like the 690 better, HOWEVER, that is a dual GPU card It essentially runs in SLI mode, so with it comes all the SLI problems with games and drivers, that plague most other SLI people.
