Small and compact - perfect for mid towers

review by greenneon

I recently purchased the Corsair H55 and installed it into a mid tower rig running an i7 3770k.
The packaging is clean and robust - Corsair adds a large amount of accessories for every type of socket

What I love about the cooler is the compactness and styling, you can't go wrong with the looks and it fits perfectly into mid tower cases.
I love the addition of the evaporation resistant tubing that makes it easily flexible when positioning the pump on the CPU socket.

The installation was somewhat fiddly, especially for a pleb like me, however with a little trial and error I managed to put the retention bracket together. NOTE: Be careful when building the retention bracket, the components are made of plastic and if you bend, jam or force the parts they may break - then you're out of luck.

My only con with the product is that there are no instructions on how to use the installation bracket for the pump. You will notice that there is a single circular ring included in the package - it actually slots into the bottom of the pump/retention bracket to stop the pump from falling out or twisting around. This makes the installation allot easier. However without the aid of YouTube I probably would have missed this very helpful addition as it makes the whole process much easier.
(The middle component is the installation ring.)

...and it clips into the bottom of the retention bracket once the pump has been moved into place.

Overall the product is made to a high quality, the radiator is perfect for mid towers and the pump is very quiet [Excluding the fan]

ProsCons
Quiet pump, compact, looksInstallation bracket - No explanation?

Great AIO water cooler

review by syntaxvgm

This keeps my CPU at 23C idle, and does its job when gaming, I rarely see over 40c. When compiling something and max the cpu load I see up to 42c sometimes. Corsair recommends that you mount it as an intake, but you'll be fine doing it as an exhaust. In fact, to avoid confusion, new users should mount as an exhaust if they don't know how to prevent hot air pockets from the reverse way. Either way, one issue many people run across is that extra bracket that's not mentioned in the terrible instructions. To me it was pretty straightforward, and I liked the added bracket, snapped right in. But don't fret, there are videos on how to install the H55 and I do recommend checking one if its your first water cooler. Also there is thermal paste already on the water block, and I still get good results without having replaced it with arctic silver, as i was out when I bought it in a Best Buy. Keep in mind that the radiator, like most, is prone to a lot of dust, but I have found it very easy to clean.

If this review influenced your decision on a new cooler, especially this one in particular, please feel free to let your cursor gravitate towards the REP button.

Not too bad, but not too good. (repost)

I traded a Dualshock 4 for this thing, this better be good.
Test System Used
  • CPU: AMD FX-8350 (OC: 4.6GHz @ 1.49V)
  • Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
  • Memory: Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB
  • GPU: Sapphire R9 280x Tri-X TOXIC @ 1.2/1.7GHz
  • Case: Cooler Master HAF X
  • PSU: Corsair HX750
  • Software: SpeedFan / Prime95 / CPU-Z / Windows 10 Professional

Installation

Getting this thing on was a task because my friend who lent it to me didn't include the backplate. I had to zip-tie it on, which you can see in the photos below, and that's not easy when you're using a full tower, in a cramped space, and you're kind of a small person. So I'm not biased about having to zip-tie it on, I asked my friend to rate installation out of 10, and he gave it an 8. Otherwise, this thing would've gotten a big fat zero.
Noise Level

When I ran two fans on this thing (the stock fan and my CRYORIG QF120), and even then, it was still really, really quiet. I mean, it's not as quiet as the Macho X2, but damn, it was still really, really quiet. I couldn't hear either of the fans, the pump, or anything. I'll give this thing a 10 for not making a sound. Good freaking job Corsair.

Performance

Okay, so here's the part that took me the longest to measure. I had to install it so many times, and that took a good 3 hours of my time alone, but here are the benchmarks.

IDLE:

  • Stock:
  • Minimum: 24?C
  • Maximum: 33?C
  • Average: ~31.5?C
  • Overclocked:
  • Minimum: 27?C
  • Maximum: 35?C
  • Average: ~33.5?C
LOAD:

  • Stock:
  • Minimum: 41?C
  • Maximum: 48?C
  • Average: ~47?C
  • Overclocked:
  • Minimum: 54?C
  • Maximum: 82?C
  • Average: ~75?C
So, yeah, pretty decent numbers. I'll give this a 8.5 here, mostly because it's performing how I suspect a 212 EVO would, but it costs $50 at the time of writing. It'd be a 10 if it was less than $35USD.

Aesthetics

When my friend gave this to me, my first reaction was that it is so much better looking than my old Alienware liquid cooler I had. I really liked the tubes, and he said that they aren't even sleeved, but that doesn't matter. Smooth tubes are B-E-A-UTIFUL. This sexy creation deserves a 10.
Closing

So, this was a new experience for me. I've never once in my life used a liquid cooler that actually fit, and was made by someone I know (like Corsair, NZXT, Thermaltake, Fractal Design, etc). I felt pretty special installing something with zip-ties, even though it's been done so many times before.

Scoring

  • Performance (40% of the score): 8.5
  • Noise Level (30% of the score): 10
  • Installation (20% of the score): 8
  • Aesthetics (10% of the score): 10
  • Final Score: 9 / 10

ProsCons
It was quieter than I expected, looks nice, Corsair's awesome leak policyPerformance was merely average, even with two fans, somewhat of a pain to install normally

Why didn't you ask Corsair about a back plate and use zip ties? I understand it was a loaner but you can't test it properly without the brackets.
