Corsair Hydro Series H90 Water Cooler

Description:
Hydro Series H90 is a 140mm all-in-one liquid CPU cooler that provides better cooling with lower noise than other high-end liquid coolers. Liquid cooling simply works better than air cooling, and the self-contained design of the H90 makes it easy for you to protect your valuable CPU. For efficient cooling, bigger is better it's simple physics. If your PC's case supports 140mm fans, Hydro Series H90 will give you better performance. The larger diameter fan has better airflow with lower noise than most 120mm fans, and the 140mm radiator has more surface area for faster cooling.

Corsair H90 Poor Performance

review by twotenths

This unit has potential but Corsair decided not to give it the same configuration of the H80i series. The biggest problem is that the marketplace for 120mm fans is hugh while 140mm high performance pressure fans are scarce and just don't have what it takes in comparison. If you could find fans that equal 120mm fans in CFM's and pressure then I'm sure this unit would outperform the H80i. Unfortunately that is not the case. They are starting to produce a few 140mm fans that can run at 2000rpm but the pressure side is very poor. The main draw of this unit is to have a quieter AIO system but we all know that to push a lot of air makes noise. I installed this unit to replace the H100i because I needed the extra space for a second PSU. When you look at chart comparisons they show the results based on the factory components that come with the unit. This unit comes with only 1 fan and it is quite slow so they rank poorly. A second fan for push pull would improve it but 140mm fans can't compare with 120mm fans yet. They are beginning to offer up more powerful fans but at a price. CFM's don't mean much if there is no pressure support especially on radiators. H80i and H100i both use 2500rpm fans with about 5mm/H2O pressure. There are no 5mm/H2O 140mm fans out there unless you want to pay for Delta's, Sanyo Denki's, or ATTO's fans which are overkill and very pricey fans. The second main problem that I have encountered is with fan controllers. Most fan controllers sold off the shelf support 120mm power spec fans. I bought a Corsair Link Kit for my fans. All of my fans are 140mm and when I turned on the system all the fan connectors in the units went up in a puff of smoke. I only had 1 fan on a 4 fan rail and it smoked as well. I own a NZXT dual bay fan controller but when I checked out the specs I would have blown those connectors as well. They all support .25A fans and 140mm fans run from .35A to .4A. That is too much power for these fan controllers to handle. I bought a NZXT Sentry Mix which supports 50W/channel but there is no display telling you how many rpm the fans are running at. I blew out some of the leds on my 140mm fans. Too much power and that is also why they discontinued making those fan controllers. They have replaced it with the Sentry Mix 2 which is 30W/channel. To sum things up the H90 won't be able to come into it's own until the fan producers start making good quality 140mm pressure fans.

ProsCons
It is a 140mm unit that could best the H80i if you set it up similarlyOut of the box it underperforms the H80i
