Great headset, excellent customer service experience

review by zaphodb2002

I moved to this headset from my old Grado SR-60's because I needed a microphone, and frankly the Grados made my ears hurt. The build quality is excellent, and the circumaural design is extremely comfortable, I can wear them for hours. While they may not have the bass that my SR-60's had, the range of sound is still excellent, and the 7.1 surround adds to the experience in games like BF3. Microphone is almost too sensitive, I set it to the lowest volume possible and it's working fine. The inline volume controller is very nice, and also allows for muting of the microphone. It does get a little hot, though.

After about 3 months of use, the left speaker started acting up, cutting out and buzzing. I traced the problem to where the cable coming out of the volume control on the headset side. When I manipulated it, I could hear popping and the sound would sometimes come back. I emailed Corsair, and within 24 hours, I had an RMA number, despite no longer having the UPC or packaging. They never even asked. Their RMA center is in Southern California, as am I, so it didn't take long for it to get there, and they immediately sent me a brand new unit, still sealed in packaging. I've never had such a good RMA experience. I just ordered their M90 mouse after my Razer Imperator died, and thanks to this experience, I'm confident that if I have any problems, they'll take care of me.

Overall, the headset is a great buy at $99. Corsair's customer service alone makes it worth the purchase. While it doesn't have the sound quality of Grado or Sennheiser headphones, it's got a mic and is very, very comfortable.

ProsCons
Great sound, 7.1 surround works well, very comfortable, excellent customer serviceissues with cable coming loose, inline volume control gets hot

Great headset, excellent customer service experience

The Grados blow that away in terms of quality of sound and build, as you mention.
But Grado's warranty also blows Corsair's warranty out of the water.

No, just... no.

review by furydharok

The mic died, after 3 days the wire was loose and it made the headset sound very low, unless i move the wire. I expected MUCH more than this. Wow.

ProsCons
Good sound quality, didn't need sound card, clear mic... when working.Traps heat, ear cups trap dirt/dead skin/dust/cat hair or whatever easily, VERY VERY cheap wiring and usb connector, takes a while to get used it.

Decent, not worth full price.

review by recr3ational

I bought these headset new but a cheaper price.
Seeing as its from corsair I thought it would be good.

There are many great things about these headset but it does come with an even amount of bad.

I'll start with the good:
The ear cups are comfortably large and I can play on these all day long.
The cable is very long (when I say very long, I could attached this to next doors computer and still have enough cable).
Listening to music on this is very good, not to much bass but a decent amount.
The physical build on these are actually pretty decent. Even though the metallic texture isn't actually metal ( It could be, just doesn't feel like it)
The driver is simple and easy to use, even though i would like to see further updates.

Now the bad:
7.1: I know that simulated 7.1 isn't as good a true 7.1 but i never knew it was going to be this bad.
It might of been my headset or me physically but I really can't hear the difference.
Its a shame as 7.1 is the main selling point for me and Corsair should of made sure that it was at least acceptable.
I got these for ?40 (including P+P) and for that price I got what i paid for. I've seen these going for ?60-?100. STAY AWAY Get these second hand or at a reduced price.

Conclusion:
I like these headset, the 7.1 is a bit of a down-er but I can get used to it.
Its feels good to have on your head and a really nice headset to listen to music.
IF Corsair brings out some new drivers to sort out the simulated 7.1, most of the owners would be happy I think.
If anyone want to buy these then buy it at a reduced price as its not worth the full price.

ProsCons
Good sound quality, best cable length I've seen. Looks good. Comfortable.7.1 is no where as good as it should be. Pricey.

Surprisingly Good Headset

review by zalith

I got my Vengeance 1500 headset about 2 weeks back and I've been using them almost non-stop. This "review" is quite simply my opinion of the set, with the points that I do and don't like about them.. Hopefully it's useful to someone.

First off I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with them right out of the box. The packaging itself sucked, but that's a moot point. At the end of a good, long (3 meter) and very soft braided cable, sits an almost featherweight set of some of the most impressive speakers I've heard in my lifetime. I live in a block of flats, so headphones are about the only way I can enjoy loud music... In that sense, these fit the bill perfectly, for hours on end without any issues.

For those of you who haven't been exposed to the USB headphone idea, it's not quite as simple to use alongside main speakers without some creativity. On that front, you might want to grab this AutoIT3 script while it's still there. I've downloaded the files and cloned the repo, but I'm still wrapping my head around the au3 syntax.

Onto the headphones themselves.. The inline volume control is absolutely brilliant. It's the perfect size and the right length from the head unit; in a nutshell, you won't battle with finding and adjusting it on the fly, without having to look down. After about an hour of gaming, it will already feel natural. That said, the LEDs separating the buttons is insanely bright... Heck, they even glow brightly on the wall 2 meters from my desk when I've got the lights off. o_O Would be nice to turn them down/off.

The ear cups themselves aren't exactly very deep.. I have relatively flat ears, but the tips still touch the felt cover for the speakers. I imagine for anyone with more "wide spread" ears (no offense intended), it may possibly be a bit uncomfortable. There isn't exactly much padding in there..

Fair warning: The Corsair software for these really does suck. I've removed mine from startup, using only the Windows volume control and the AutoIT3 to "manage" the sound. The only benefit I see is an equalizer, but virtually every soundcard these days come with one of those as well, so that's a moot point.

Overall, I'd give these a 8 out of 10. They are amazing quality for their price, comfortable to use for hours on end, and all round a solid investment. While you won't be disappointed, I'm sure you could get better if you spent that little bit extra.

Note: I listed "awkward mounting" in the cons partly for personal reasons.. My left arm is paralyzed from a motorcycle accident, so I only have one hand with which to put them on and take them off. In that sense, the 90 degree free-swinging sides are a bit annoying. I would have much preferred a (at least gentle) spring pulling them straight.

ProsCons
Lightweight, comfortable, long cord, easy controls, awesome volume, clear sound.Shoddy software, awkward "mounting" (see footnotes below), hard headband padding, shallow ear cups.
