Stellar Image Quality
Pros: Amazing colours, perfect for photo editing, the wide gamut really sets it apart
Cons: Not good for gaming as trailing may appear
One of my sig rigs is being used as a Photo Editing machine and , consequently, I needed to purchase a very good screen. I bought this Dell due to its good reputation in the photography world. I am not sorry as I was lucky enough to get a complete uniform panel. When you first turn it on, you can see the poor Dell Factory calibration. Colours are horribly set and the first thing I did is to calibrate the monitor with my Spyder 3 Elite tool. This nifty tool measures everything, from colour temperature to luminance and brightness uniformity in each quadrant of the panel.
As soon as I finished my calibration to a 2.2 gamma and 6500 Kelvin, I saw amazing detail and depth. The screen is fairly easy to calibrate compared to others I have used. The wide gamut is an advantage as it provides more colours than sRGB and Adobe RGB. You can notice these different colours in every photo you take or even in movies. I have seen a few people complain from a redish colour when looking at BluRay films but this is not a fault within the screen itself. It is related to the Wide Gamut and this simply gives you a different shade of red which you cannot see on sRGB or Adobe RGB.
I also used the monitor for gaming and I must say that I enjoyed it but in some cases I noticed the trailing people mention in other reviews. Given the amazing image quality of this IPS screen, I am willing to ignore the gaming shortcoming.
I highly recommend this if you are a photographer.
