Diablo 1 and 2

Diablo is one of those games you always go back to. The reasons for your going back are determined by a wide range of content the game has to offer. With the announcment in 2008 of Diablo 3 officially coming out I went back to Diablo 2 to try out the latest patch that was released for it. I was amazed at how many people were still playing on the Lord of Destruction Ladder and decided to write A review for you who may have played it or maybe have just heard someone discuss it. What you will get from this review is all I have to say about Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 having played it for over 10 years on and off.
I will break it into sections for easy reading and some of you may be amazed at what you didn't know about the game and what you could do. So here we go!

Diablo 1 was released in 1996 for computers and Sony Playstation 1. This was probally one of the first games to come out on both PC and Console in the late 1900's. You start out in the town of Tristram when you realize the world you know is being over-run by Diablos spawn and it is your job to push back the forces of evil threw various dungeons until you eventually reach hells gate towards the end of the game. Tho at first glimpse it may seem repetitive the further down you go the stranger the dungeons look and the more gothic they feel. At one moment you feel your light radious has depleted and you cannot see anything until minions are swarming you but you reach a point where the ambience of the game itself provides an off hue light that puts you in a trance you cannot pull away from. You keep telling youself Push Forward! I'm almost to the next level! The music composed by Matt Uelmen also adds to the excitment where you really feel like you are a Hero and it's up to you to save the world.

I give Diablo 1 a 4.4 out of 5 because todays computers are so much more advanced that unless you really played Diablo 1 back then it will be trickey to get such a low color bitrate and resolution game to run the way it did.

Diablo 2 was released in 2000 for pc and mac and the music and sound was composed by Matt Uelmen. The amount of content Diablo 2 has to offer is INSANE! If you have internet or a lan setup then you can play on Battle.net with friends or various people and do quest with people your level and beat the game without having to play by yourself altough at various times playing single player is all around conveinent.

To start the Interface of Diablo 2 is neat and polished and hotkeyed to your keyboard. When you first create a character you will be put into the lobby where you can chat with people in channels or pick or create your own room. The UI is compact and you can bring up various windows via a hotkey even including a map which shows only as much land as you have explored.

The Dialog is immersive and has good voice acting that does not try to diture from the main subject the NPC is trying to give you. (So no random Oblivion style Voice Overs) as you progresss threw the game so do the NPC's they are aware of where you are at in the game and do not confuse you by asking if you have explored somewhere you have long ago wiped out any quest in the area. You start to make friends with certain NPC's and Stay away from others.

The Cinematics are the best for the time if you would say shrek started animation then take a look at some of the cut scenes from Diablo 2 and see how much effort was put into making this a good game for its time. It's truley amazing and I am still impressed at how well done they are and you are given the option upon install wether or not to install the cinematics so I reccomend if you havn't seen them to deffinatly watch them.

The Music is very immersive its almost it's own genre and I would never explore the different lands without it turned up because its made to bring your attention into the different kinda moods the developers want you to feel while moving ahead in the game threw different scenerios.

Act 1
The game has four Main bosses and five with the expansion, in act 1 you fight your way threw the catacombs to defeat Anderial an evil boss who always scared the crap out of me because she is similar to Goro from Mortal Combat and when shes rushes towards you shooting poison at you with all the minions and skeleton warriors you always take a step back.

Act 2
In act 2 you fight your way threw the desert and various tomb's, tunnels, and dungeons to get to Durial. Durial is a strong boss with less dmg then most other bosses that hits hard but not often so if you have a fast attack speed you can take it out fairly easy but if your a lower level following someone into the dungeon its a certain one hitter quiter if your hit.

Act 3
In act 3 you go and fight Mephisto after making your way threw various floors of a dungeon. Mephisto is a hard boss to fight he floats threw the air and has ranged attacks and close range attacks and is surouned by ghouls who all have ranged attacks so you gotta keep your game face when defeating him. Once dead he drops a soul stone which you will need to grab if you want to finish a quest which has nice drops upon smashing the soul stone which is usually a Rune and various gems.

Act 4
Diablo is the boss in act 4 you fight your way threw the Chaos Sanctuary where you earn lots of experience along the way. Towards the end of the sanctuary you will have to activate 3 seals in order to spawn Diablo. Diablo has a massive AoE and strong mellee hits and if it wasn't for the Lord of Destruction Expansion pack upon killing him would put you into the next difficulty.

Act 5
Act 5 is my personal favorite it has tons of specialty quest and the boss is Baal. Upon getting to Baals throne you fight your way threw Baals minions all while he spawns Hydras. Each time you wipe out his minions he spawns harder and more difficult ones but once you wipe them all out you follow Baal into the portal he sits in front of and fight him there. Baal has Ranged dmg, summons static mobs and has a rush up ability and of all the bosses he may be the most difficult because of all these things. But once you kill him you have finished the final act and now move onto the next difficulty.

There are many things that will keep you interested in the game once you have beat all the difficultys and I will go threw them now.

Magic Finding (MF)
Magic finding is a stat in the game the determines your chance to find items with magical enchantments. You can magic find on any character the best ones are the classes you can solo threw all bosses with such as the Paladin or Sorceress for example. These are the easier classes to get geared up to do so and as you would think each difficulty has harder mobs with better drops so its best to work towards getting a toon able to solo hell to make the most profit.

Profit
There are many ways to make a good sum of loot or currency in the game. The most used one are High Runes, these are runes generally lvl 45 and above the rarer the better. They are used in the best Runeworded items in the game. A Rune worded Item is for example an "Enigma" comprised of "Jah,Ith,BEr" those runes put into a 3 socketed Torso Armor will give it magical abilitys and stats such as character teleport. So you can either save the High Runes or trade them to fellow D2 players for good items.

D2JSP
D2jsp.org is a website that has been out nearly since the start of Diablo 2. It allows players to create an acount to trade items or services to other players in your realm. Lets say you made a thread with a collage of items for trade people will either post a bid or a bin(buy it now) price on one or all of the items. From there the trader and customer organize a room via pm's to make the trade. The currency for buying these items is called Forum Gold or (FG), and if you do not trust the customer you can request a Mediater from the website to be the middle man of the trade. The Mediater has a tag under his name that knowone can have so you can be certain he is trusted to hold both sides of the trade so knowone will get scammed. If you do not want to wait for a mediater you will have to take steps such as creating a time stamp in chat log after the customer joins your group stating your name and the trade and request he does the same then take a screenshot. If the customer takes the items and doesnt pay you, you can create a scammer accusation thread and with the right evidence the scammer will be banned from using the trade forums on the website and his acount will be tagged such as scammer so people will be aware that they should not trade with him. Any FG you make can be converted to US dollars, and you can also buy FG with money.
Using D2JSP to become rich!
Lets say you have a toon that has a service to offer such as rushing. (rushing is doing all the quest needed for a low lvl toon to get to hell so he can be powerleveled to 80 within 8 hours), or lets say you have a Magic Finder toon that has good loot. You can do this all alone to make all the profit for yourself or teamup with a partner to enhance the time it takes to do this so you can get more customers in the day.

What I would do is collect Organs threw out hell and combine the organs into the Horadric Cube to Spawn whats called Uber Trist Portal. Uber Trist has some of the bosses in the game that are ALOT stronger then you can imagine but upon clearing Uber Trist a Torch drops. The Torch is a charm that has amazing stats and abilities that most people in D2 work towards getting. The way to make money off this on JSP is to sell them Unidentified or (UNID) because the stats are random and a low identified torch is worth as much as a unid one. Once you do this you can now buy the Organ sets rather then farming them so in a day you can sell as many Unid Torches as you can come by. The more you use JSP you will make buisness partners that you can trust and may loan you stuff if they know your good for it and can pay them back.

Cookie Cutter Classes
These are toons that people make that have all there stats put into the right order and all the best gear for the play style the want to do. The easier ones are for the Sorceress and the Paladin, but once you have made a good sum of HR's or FG you can buy the more advanced stuff for any other classes which are primarily used for dueling.

Dueling
To duel in Diablo 2 all you need to do is open your party window and go hostile to anyone in the room. Then you will have to go out and find them. A good dueler will ask before hostiling anybody for a legit fight that usually takes place outside act 1's rouge encampment. Once a player is killed by another player there Ear will drop and it will read Soandso's Ear. You now have a trophy for your victory and can show off to other players. The best way to go about collecting ears is in Hardcore difficulty. In hardcore if you die your character dies and you can NEVER play it again so Ears are more valuable.

SOJ, ANNI
The Soj is called the Stone of Jordan. Its a ring in the game that has amazing stats and is fairly rare nowadays but when diablo 2 first came out there was ALOT of them and nearly everyone had them, They were easily "Duped" and in an attempt to fix it Blizzard Implemented the Anni or Annihulus Charm. This is the rarest item in the game in order to get it you must be in the right server. It drops from Uber Diablo Clone or (Dclone) and he spawns on a random server when XXX amount of Soj's are sold to merchant. If you have ever been in a server where the screen rocks back and forth and on the top left part of your screen reads "Diablo roams the Earth" then you are lucky and Dclone has spawned in your server. Now its a matter of finding him and killing him, the easiest way to kill Dclone is to have a Paladin Smiter with almost perfect gear and a potion bar full of Full Rejuvination potions. Then once he is dead he drops the ANNI. The anni can be sold Unid on D2jsp for a pretty penny aswell.

Fun Things
In act 5 there is a quest reward that allows you to personallize any item with your toons name in front of it so if you ever trade it people will always know you or if you keep its like plus rep to yourself.

If you have any gems or skulls and put them into any socketed item the item will change color to whichever first gem you put into it.(Skull is black)

There are many Shrines threwout the game some of which shoot potions or gems out of them.

There is a easter egg level in D2 called the Secret Cow Level, in Diablo 1 there were rumurs that if you click a certain NPC a few hundred times it would spawn a secret portal to the cow level, you may have heard of the Starcraft CHEAT called "There is no cow level" that only ensured that it was a hoax. Funny although in Diablo 2 they did implement it upon going back to tristram on the rivers edge there is a childs body called Wirt, when you click him he drops various loot including "Wirts Leg" when you combine wirts leg and a full tomb of town portals in the horadric cube it spawns the Secret Cow Level. This portal is full of cows and by far the funniest place to go magic finding with friends and you can go back as much as you want so long as you dont kill the Cow King. If he dies you can never create the portal again. Pretty cool huh?

Horadric Cube
You can create nearly anything with recipes in the cube. And many of you may not know that you can actually craft your own items. These if good enough are worth a fortune on D2jsp. You can create Full rejuv's aswell as many many other things.

In the year 2000 Diablo 2 was awarded "The Fastest Selling PC game EVER sold" by the Guiness world Book of Records.

I give Diablo 2 a 4.9 out of 5, minus the .1 because the graphics are out of date.

I hope you all Enjoy this game as much as I did.

Pros: Good for hundreds of hours of play

Cons: Online play full of spammers and dupes

Diablo II is one of those rare games that people are still playing, over 10 years later. Improving almost everything from it's predecessor, Diablo II is one of those rare games where everything comes together well. The game is fun from the moment you start, to when you fully beat hell difficulty, and even to just replay hell difficulty with the same character over and over to try and get the best items.

The expansion set is probably not optional in this day and age. Without the LOD expansion, you are limited to 640x480 resolution. The expansion increases that to 800x600. While still abysmal by todays standards, the 800x600 res is a lot more passable, and increases the view distance. Also the spell synergy is very nice, which the classic version doesn't have.

If somehow you have not gotten around to playing Diablo II yet, I recommend picking up the classic and expansion at same time. The expansion only adds an act and other features, so there is no reason to play classic first. If you offer around $15 someone will probably give you their old pair of cd keys, otherwise you're stuck buying the Diablo battlechest which is a bit overpriced for a game this old.

You'll also facedemon imps and demonic minions and their overseers who whip them intoa battle frenzy. You'll battle massive ice creatures called frozen horrorspowerful blood lords and the undead rot walkers who may clamber back totheir feet even after you think you've killed them. The two new character classes the assassin and the druid are bothhybrid fighter-mages that seem to fit very well with the existing fivecharacter classes. The assassin is a female warrior whose skills comprisemartial arts techniques shadow disciplines and trap making. The martialarts techniques make the assassin a powerful melee fighter while her shadowdisciplines give her powerful and versatile magical attacks. Her trapsare also effective as they let the assassin cause widespread damage throughenemy ranks. The Diablo II expansion's lead designer Tyler Thompson describedher as being a more tactical character than the original Diablo II classes- she cannot cause direct melee or magic damage as readily as the barbarianor sorceress but her attacks are ultimately no less powerful. In additionto her martial arts the assassin also specializes in unconventional bladedweapons like claws and katars. The druid is a tall imposing character clad in furs. His skills ares
