GOTY 2011 *minor spoiler*

review by robitussin

This game is amazing. Even though it was released at the same time as other AAA+ titles I cant imagine this not getting GOTY. The graphics leave something to be desired compared to BF3, but it doesn't look bad and it more then makes up for that shortcoming by the expansive open-ended world where you can literally do almost anything you can imagine.

Want to pick a lock to finish a quest but the inn is full of drunken commoners? Just throw an extra Elven Gloves of Smithing into the middle of the inn and watch the NPCs start a brawl to see who will pick it up.

This game brings NPC interaction to a new level. Guards will pester you if you drop weapons in the middle of a road, and even commoners will look down upon someone looting refuse barrels for the extra 2 gold.

The side quests have always been my favorite part of The Elder Scrolls series and they are back. Although I found the new "Mages Guild" quests to be quite short and upon further reading the "main" line of most of the main faction quests are very short this time around, only 4-5 long-ish quests, but they do allow for seemingly unlimited side quests that is supposed to make up for that. I personally just do the faction quests to become "Arch-Mage" or the leader then don't really care afterwards to that's not really enough for me.

The main quest is engrossing and once you gain enough of the "Shout" powers is can be a fun addition to the game. I've yet to finish it so I wont comment on the ending or anything of that nature.

Combat is much improved over the last game and the magic fighting is now a viable option. The wielding of spells as a weapon idea is great and I really enjoy how the implemented it into the game. I wish they didn't do away with spell making but hopefully there will be a mod to cover that miss.

TES: Skyrim is a great game and I would recommend it to any one who enjoys both RPGs and any type of sandbox world game like the GTA series or Saint's Row, even many MMO players like WoW and City of Heroes will find something to like about the game.

ProsCons
Sandbox, living world, huge mapmuddy textures, certain quests can become repetitive, not enough time in the day to play it!

Skyrim, doing games right.

review by fuloran1

Skyrim in my opinion is simply the best RPG of all time. you live in a fully realized breathtaking world, where you are free to do whatever you want, but be careful, because your choices matter.

Skyrim is a game that almost defies description. The bar for rpg's, and games in general, has been raised exponentially by Bethesda, the creators of The Elder Scrolls series. You live in a land called Skyrim, which is chock full of monsters, dungeons, characters of all kinds, and enough quests and content to keep you busy for hundreds of hours of play. The main quest line can be completed in anywhere from 2-10 hours depending on your play style, but don't let that fool you. Skyrim has an incredible number of side quests and dungeons to explore. Not to mention the new and amazing "Radiant AI" system. The game actually generates quests for you.

For example, you help someone escape a dungeon. This raises his disposition towards you and he agrees to follow you around and help you. Sometime later your companion disappears and shortly after you receive a ransom note because he has been kidnapped! you must hen go on an epic adventure to rescue him (or not, it's up to you.) This is just one of thousands of possibilities that Skyrim gives you that keeps the game fresh playthrough after playthrough.

Graphically, skyrim is amazing. I find myself stopping to look around all the time, and I can'e ever remember doing that in a game before. Climbing to the top of a mountain and seeing a breathtaking view is something I highly recommend. (and not just because of the view, chances are you will have quite an adventure on your way to the top!)

In a nutshell, Skyrim is amazing. It is graphically superb, has awesome gameplay, is incredibly deep and with it's radiant AI support almost unlimited playthroughs. Get this game!

ProsCons
Great graphics, open world gameplay, amazing universe to explore. Can be a bit glitchy at times.
