Filco Ninja Majestouch-2, Tenkeyless, NKR, Tactile Action, USA Keyboard FKBN87M/EFB2

Description:
The Ten-Keyless version of the Majestouch-2 Ninja. Filco's Ninja has the same layout as a standard US keyboard, but instead of having legends on the top of the keys it has legends on the front of the keys. This is the 87 key version of Majestouch (the Majestouch without the number pad). With this compact keyboard, you can save space while having the same layout, and the same tactile feel as the existing Majestouch series. Additional Accessories. The Ninja comes with 2 sets of Windows keys 1 set top printed, 1 set front printed, and a key puller to help you change the keys. True N-key rollover. The functionality by which all the typed keys are recognized on the PC, even when many keys are typed simultaneously. All the keys typed simultaneously are recognized on the PS/2 port (limited to 6 keys typed simultaneously for the USB due to the specifications of USB). Completely dedicated electronic circuitry, a diode is soldered on the PCB for every key switch to prevent 'counter currency'. Solid and stylish. The rigid case construction gives a sure and comfortable typing experience with a specially designed font, for better visibility and a stylish and long lasting appearance. An excellent feel with the 'brown' MX tactile feel key switch. The Cherry MX 'brown' key switch, gives a tactile feel without the audible click of the 'blue' switch, it has a long key stroke of 4mm with the actuation point (key press) at 2mm. Easy, fast and stress-free typing, the famous features of Cherry MX tactile feel.

Great board, a tad overpriced

review by csm725

So, let's take a look at the Filco Majestouch 2 Ninja in MX Browns!
I will cover a couple of parameters - typing feel, keycaps, build quality, features, compatibility, noise, reliability, others, looks, ergonomics, and last but not least, value.
Typing Feel
Since this is a keyboard, let us start with the most important attribute - how does it feel to type on this thing?
Well, it feels nice. The tactile feel of the Cherry Corp MX Browns is satisfying but bottoming out is not so easy. If you do bottom out, it feels good too. I have found on Browns that "floating" (not bottoming out) increases my typing speed because I can switch from letter to letter faster. Overall, the feel is consistent even across the larger keys thanks to the Costar stabilizers.
Keycaps
The keycaps on this board have an advantage over their regular counterparts - they are what Filco calls "Ninja" - front printed. This may or may not appeal to you aesthetically but from a functionality standpoint, it is clever. Filco's standard ABS plastic keys are known to start "shining" - losing their top coating - early on, and thus losing the printing of the letters. The Ninja key caps will not eliminate the shine, but the keycaps can never rub off, since they are on the front face. A smart move and some may think it aesthetically pleasing.
Build Quality
This keyboard is one of the best-built boards out there. It competes with Deck, WASD, and Ducky, and it is a solid board. It weighs 940g with the included keycaps. It is said this Filco could be used as a melee weapon to hold off any zombie apocalypses, which brings me to my next point.
Features
So, picture this scenario, you are typing on your solid Filco, right? You hear knocks on the door, then a window smashing. What is happening? You hear scratches on your door. It is knocked down. Zombies are flooding in; you look around for a weapon, and only find your Filco. You yank it out of its place to ward off the zombies, but NO. It does not budge! The cable is not detaching! You try repeatedly, but then realize Filcos have no detachable cable! You are forced to attempt to hold the attackers off with your bare hands, and suffice it to say it did not end well.
All jokes aside, this Filco has no extra features, no USB/Audio pass-throughs, no media keys, and no numpad layer.
It does have rubber feet on the bottom of the keyboard, and on the bottom of the feet, which can be raised.
Compatibility
The keyboard works great with Mac, Windows, and Linux. It has nothing that couldn't be compatible.
KEYCAPS
These are standard keycaps in their shape and profile. Everyone but Deck uses this profile. The space bar is compatible with most replacement sets unless they are specified as Leopold-compatible.
Noise
For the first week I typed on this Filco, it was relatively loud. Then, I became accustomed to the Brown switches. I began "floating" on them, and not only were the switches quieter, they were more fun and faster to type on. They did make a somewhat higher pitched sound upon bottom out though.
When I switched the keys for PBT plastic ones, the keyboard's noise became deeper and more subdued. However, it still makes a bit of a racket when bottoming out.
Reliability
Filcos are very reliable keyboards. That is all I have to say, and mine has been doing great, as have hundreds of others. I have not had one problem with this board, and I doubt I will.
Others
INCLUDED STUFF
Included with this were a key-puller (Filco wire style) and a USB-PS2 adapter. I use ring style key-pullers to pull the keys, which can be had for $3-5 online.
Keep in mind the Costar style stabilizers are not the easiest to work with, but after 5 minutes, you get the hang of it fairly well.
CLEANING
You would use the included key-puller to remove all keys (first the non-stabilized, then the stabilized) and blow the keyboard out using a can of compressed air, or preferably a DataVac.
PACKAGING
Most reviews cover this first, but we do not buy keyboards for packaging, do we? However, this keyboard was packaged well from Amazon (KeyBoardCo), although lately there have been reports of under-packaged boards. This is being fixed.
Looks
This is where the Filco shines. It is the sexiest keyboard out there, in my opinion. The sleek gunmetal logo on the front lip, the blank top, what is not to love?
Ergonomics
This Filco is tenkeyless, which allows it to take up less space on your desk and have the mouse closer to the keyboard. This is the best solution in my opinion if you are not using a Kinesis or similar ergonomic keyboard (DataHand) with a RollerMouse. It works well with my G500. Over a long period, the Browns may tire some, but the switches get a bit lighter after a month or so of typing.
Value
Sadly, this Filco is not the best "bang for your buck". It offers the least amount of features in its price bracket. However, you're paying for the brand name and reliability (same as expensive clothes).
Overall
The Filco is a solid board with great build quality and it is very reliable, but offers very little features for the price. Keep in mind the Ninja keycaps are a $10 price premium.
