Another great gigabyte product

review by itsallpoo

This is my latest build using a AMD 9370 cpu, which as you probably know, is only supported by a handful of boards as of right now. This was a very easy build and everything looks to be of the usual gigabyte excellent quality. I generally only build with two brands lately, gigabyte and one other that I trust, they have given me the least number of hassles. I only have two gripes with this board, the pcie4 slot is more or less totally blocked by the chipset heatsink that is right behind it..or at least one of the heat pipes for it is right behind it. I have a very short pcie4x firewire B card that worked fine on my old board in the same slot (first slot next to the powersupply) but will not fit here. All my other slots, except the pcie16x for another video card are populated so I'm aggravated about that part but other than that there's plenty of room for multiple video cards etc. etc. I haven't had a chance to look for another firewire B card that might be shorter, you only have about 2.5-3" and I'm not sure I'll be able to find a card that fits, haven't really spent much time looking yet. The other aggravation was the AMD cool n quiet setting in the bios. At least with my hardware this has to be disabled (is on by default I believe) or you'll get nothing but random reboots. Took me a bit to figure that one out but turning it off stopped that problem. I am using air cooling but it runs fairly hot with that high juice sucking cpu so I'll probably switch to liquid cooling at some point assuming I can get one that fits this case or a new case. At first I was running windows 7, no issues, just upgraded to windows 8 but I'm tempted to go back to 7 just not impressed. Make sure that AHCI is enabled for your hard drives before you load the OS or you'll have issues if you want to use hotswap, apparently windows goes stupid if you try to change it after the fact and expect it to load drivers into the OS when you make the bios change. I've had this rig running smooth for about four months, no major issues. I leave the box on all the time for downloads, entertainment etc. etc. it's rarely shut down. Very happy with it.
