Pros: Does everything it needs

Cons: Nothing really

When i bought this HD 7870 GHz edition, I dropped it right into my computer and ran BF3. Instantly 60fps on ultra. no hick ups. Running GPUz, i have seen 50c underload at 40% fan speed, and i can bearly hear the 3 fans. I Running Civ5, i am getting great fps and everything is buttery smooth. Still 50c.

Overclocking was a bit trickier, Its already clocked at 1.1 Ghz, getting it past that has been very difficult, without changing voltage, nor have I. When overclocking, i did get BSOD and i had to keep the stock settings. I can atest to say this is an unlocked voltage card.

Pros: 3 Fans, Factory Overclocked, PCI 3.0, 2GB VRAM, Low idle/load temps

Cons: Very large (about 9 inches long), can get loud under full load

I bought this card after previously owning a GTX 560 Ti, and the performance increase is amazing! Runs BF3, Skyrim, and Shogun 2 on ultra. I am getting 75 FPS on BF3 on high settings, about 85 FPS on Skyrim ultra settings, and almost 100 FPS on Shogun 2 ultra settings. My idle temp is 33C, and my load temp has never passed 67C. The 3 fans seem to work very well, although they begin to get noisy during extensive use.

If you can afford this card (and it will fit in your case), I highly recommend the Gigabyte 7870 GHz Edition

Pros: One of the better performing vanilla 7870s, runs cool, and mine overclocks well.

Cons: A lot of coil whine, occasional fan clicking, and gathers tons of dust.

The Pros

The reason this card is one of the better non-Tahiti 7870s is because of Gigabyte's custom PCB. Gigabyte took the 7870 and replaced it's memory chips with Hynix memory so they perform a bit better at the same speed. I did not know about that until I compared my card's 3DMark 11 graphics scores to an Asus DCII 7870 at the same clocks as mine and mine beat it by roughly 500 points. We were running the same drivers. Gigabyte also replaced the chokes on the reference 7870 with ferrite chokes. I don't know if those are any better but I thought it was worth mentioning in case someone knowledgeable about chokes reads this although I know busman chokes would still probably be preferred. I don't know if they changed the VRMs or not though. My card loaded at 57C before the dust apocalypse started, now it loads at 62C. The ASIC quality on mine is 83.6%.

The Cons

My card has ridiculous coil whine, this seems to be a common problem with the Windforce cooler. The reason I did not count off for this is because coil whine can be fixed by letting the card sit on Crysis 2's main menu all night every night for a week as this is where the card is loudest at. The coils just need to be broken in I guess. The reason I did not count off due to the clicking noise is because it is usually not present and I suspect the dust is causing it. It gathers a lot of dust, I think that is common sense, the more fans on something the more dust that will build up on it.

All in all a very good performer and if you get one that whines, do yourself a favor and just do what I recommended rather than rmaing it. It's less of a hassle, but if it doesn't work then I would rma it.
