Great mid range graphics card that performs well out of the box

review by mxfreek09

The Gigabyte R9 270x Windforce OC video card from AMD is a great way to get quality performance without breaking the bank. This video card comes in just shy of the $250(USD) price point and packs a punch for playing the newest titles at 1080p. Right out of the box it is easy to tell this card is no frills, Gigabyte includes the essentials such as: two dual molex to 6 pin power adapters, a crossfire bridge, and the driver disk. The card comes in the usual anti-static bag and is well protected by a substantial amount of soft padding.

While it may be considered a middle of the pack card, it has the ability to handle the newest games at high settings while running smooth and cool. The card boasts a factory overclocked core at 1100MHz and 2GB of DDR5 memory clocked at 1,400 alongside Gigabytes well known WindForce cooling solution. The non-reference cooler on this card keeps the temperatures down low enough to allow for some overclocking headroom without the noise of the reference cooling solutions. Our particular 270x was able to reach a stable core clock of 1200MHz, which is 200MHz over a reference 270x and a memory clock of 1500MHz while the temperature maxed out at just 72C while still keeping the fan noise to a minimum.

Gigabyte?s R9 270x also allows for easy setup with most monitor configurations with plenty of full size video output ports available such as: HDMI, Display Port, DVI-I, and DVI-D. Alongside its performance this card is very attractive with its black PCB, which should match most motherboards unlike some of the other 270x cards that are available with blue or red PCBs. As with other cards in the R9 series, this card is a dual slot design. However, the non-reference WindForce cooler is quite long, extending beyond the PCB lengthwise and coming in at just under 11.3 inches which ranks up there with some of the longer video cards available. Overall, Gigabyte?s R9 270x OC WindForce video card is an excellent choice in the mid $200(USD) price range and will not fail to impress with its performance in some of the most punishing current generation games.
